Brewster press conference notes

Did Coach Brewster just let this trip off his tongue?

"Derrick Onwuachi had a strong summer, and is a great athlete with a
39 ½ in vertical jump."

So what regarding DO. I have always thought he had the athetic ability to play but seemed to be missing something else. That late hit he delivered vs Iowa in 07 was a picture of him. Good enough to almost get their but dumb enough to earn a 15 yd penalty on third down.

Hopefully he can put it together because he probably has the physical ability to be a useful player. Will he get the coaching? He has gone through plenty of DCs under Brewster which isn't helpful.

39 1/2" vertical is serious explosion, especially impressive from a DE, and letting this information out is unusal for the University. Info about this, squat records, power cleans, bench press, 40 times are seemingly never discussed, verified, or published.

To put 39 1/2 in perspective, the all time record holder at Nebraska including all sports in the Vertical Leap is Trev Alberts at 41 1/2.

No big deal. LSU wanted him, right? DO has always been a specimen - just raw as hell. Brewster talks a lot and most of it is meaningless! DO showed some things in the 07 Iowa game but was just a step away.

Some coach needs to get the light to turn on. He has potential but has gone through a hell of a lot of turnover on the staff. The turnover on the defensive staff under Brewster has not helped at all.

I'm not following what you're saying, so you think he needs more new coaches. Why would you want that.

Some DC needs to make this a home for a few years running and develop players like DO. He has not been in a good environment due to the constant turnover. He isn't all that important but the larger point remains. If Brewster is ever going to be a winner he needs to wrangle a staff that can stick for more than a year at a time. Player development is critical now. Guys like DO need to maximize for Brewster to make it work at Minnesota.

to put 39.5 in perspective, Reggie Bush got 36 at the end of his senior season, If I remember.

I agree that the revolving door Minnesota has enjoyed at DC is not helpful; however, isn't a lot of the coaching you are referring to role of a position coach, where we have had stability?

Uh oh...this is bad.

The terms outstanding and tremendous were not used a single time

Coaching turnover is going to happen no matter what, it's part of the game. Do you think Urban Meyer still isn't going to have a shot at another National Championship because they lost the offensive coordinator?
To me the key is to build a good base of coaches that can fill the gaps when coordinators leave. Like promoting Lee to co-defensive coordinator....you can keep some stability. If we didn't promote Lee he likely would have gone somewhere else and have been a coordinator.
Davis and Fisch seem to me like a nice mix. I'm excited to see what we are going to look like. I'm hoping we keep defenses on their heels. I thought we were getting really predictable last year and the creativity level was basicallly non existant.

Shhhhhh, you're not helping Rotundo make his inaccurate point.

Thanks

for the excellent report on the press conference.
