Brewster > M. Dantonio, R. Rodriquez

Let me start by saying (as Bob Huggins likes to say) that "You are what you are, your record is what it says it is." And what Michigan State & the Gophers both are this season is 6-6 and very mediocre. Coulda', woulda' and shoulda' doesn't mean a hill of beans. ... it's the loser's lament (referring to the "woulda', coulda', shoulda' excuse).

That said, here are some numbers through 3 years of the Dantonio-Brewster regimes:

Dantonio
22-16 overall
13-11 in Big 10
4-2 vs. chief rivals (Michigan & Notre Dame)
5-3 in November Big 10 games
2 seasons of .500 or better in Big 10 (including a 6-2)
0-2 in bowl games
0-1 head to head vs. Brew

Brew
14-23 overall
6-18 in Big 10
0-6 vs. chief rivals (Iowa & Wisconsin)
0-9 in November Big 10 games
0 seasons of .500 or better in Big 10
0-1 in bowl games
1-0 head to head vs. Dantonio

Other than the head to head meeting, can't see any way Brew wins this debate.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I am not disputing that Notre Dame is a bigger rival- just saying that a more fair comparison is the conference rivals.

Uh, there is something that is being seriously overlooked here.

Dantonio has two victories over his school's biggest rival.
Dantonio had his team finish alone in third place in the conference
Dantonio's team played in a New Year's Day bowl game last year.

Please don't say that 1-11, 6-6 and 6-6 is better than that.

+1 It is laughable to compare Dantonio to Brewster or Rodriguez. Both Brewster and Rodriguez are in so far over the heads, the rest of us in the conference wonder where we can donate money to keep them around longer than they will be. Add Zook to the Brewster comparisons. They are all hat and no cattle. Rodriguez is just plain a bad man. He treats his players and coaches like sh!t. Michigan screwed up royally in their diligence. When one hears the same thing over and over again it should raise some flags.

Watch Dantonio and his staff on game day. Light years away from the disorganized, fire drill like composure that defines Michigan and Minnesota. Then there is that stat that is often overlooked on this board - Wins. Boy can Brewster recruit though.

A little too early there mrschlong. But enjoy the ride, cause the roller coaster is going over it's last hill before your ride is done.

lol. You guys have been saying it since the beginning of last season. I just didn't realize you meant 2010 season (as opposed the the year 2010, since the declining 2009 Badgers will be once again playing in a post New Years Bowl).

I'm willing to make a bet with one of you that the Badgers will win more Big 10 game over the next two years than the Gophers will. Say $100 bucks to be held by Gopher Lady.

I don't know when skunks ride is over schlong. I see the talent decline. Next year they move from 5th in talent to 7th and the trend continues. It's coming. remember these days.

Winnipegopher,

On one hand, there is all this talk about how Wisconsin is slipping backwards and how Minnesota is as strong as the Badgers and recruits should choose the Gophers.

If that's the case, you can't now say Wisconsin is historically strong.

The facts don't support "talk" that Wisconsin is slipping and that Minnesota is as strong as the Badgers. The only place that talk occurs is on this board.

13-2 in the last 15 against Minnesota and 36 wins compared to 19 over the last four years pretty much dispels that notion.

You are really a reasonable poster, but you can't be serious. Offensive player of the year, returning. Freshman of the year, returning. 3 or 4 other all Big Ten performers, returning. 18 starters returning. Does not look like a talent decline to me. Program has more depth and talent now then it has had in years.

the fact that their biggest rival hasn't been this bad in the last half decade might contribute to their success against them.

yes they went to a new year's bowl last year, but they had a -3 game regression this year with roughly the same, arguably easier schedule. something tells me that kind of regression wouldn't have sat well with the reactionists here.

point out what i said that is debatable. i don't care about notre dame, penn state, or dantonio's record in november. all i said that michigan state has had an easy task in beating a down michigan. not that minnesota is better than michigan state or michigan or even that brewster is better than dantonio (i did say that in their sole head to head match-up brewster out-coached dantonio).

yes, michigan state has a better record the last three years. yes dantonio looks better on paper.

why is it that so many people on this board are all over dantonio's junk?

dantonio was left with 3 times the junior and senior talent that brewster was

i just cant believe people cant grasp this simple concept

I run the numbers. Wiscy finished just where their strength of roster suggested they finish. They've been trending down. Next year they slip slightly, the years after much more. You better hope that freshman of the year is really, really good.
