Brewster and Colorado

Matt Foley was at least an intentional comedic skit/bit.

This is either a bad caricature (of himself, no less) or just plain sad.

I'll bet this kind of thing is somewhat common in D1 football. I don't think it's unique to Brewster.
Yeah, I don't know why people get all worked up about coach-speak. I'm a very old man and my high school coaches were all pretty much like this and often far more profane. All sports seem to be becoming a combination of WWE and UFC.

I still like him to this day. I think he honest to goodness believed he could do the job and failed. He sells some bs and he's full of it, but I don't think for once he intentionally took the U for a ride, and it still bugs me when he's referred to as a snake oil salesman. No, the guy is just bad at being anything other than a recruiting coordinator and a tight ends coach. He made Gopher football exciting again for the short time he was here, although the on field results were poop. I still rememeber how awesome it was getting the Skyline 4.

Well put, my thoughts as well. I have no I’ll will towards Brew, even if the final results weren’t great.

Had the vision, but couldn't execute it. I have no hard feelings toward him either.

Guessing he has done this everywhere he's been. I'll bet players from his past stops see this and giggle.

The video of him is pretty cringeworthy but I don't really think its far off from PJ and the language he instructs our players to use. Love PJ but you are right, some really interesting personas in college football

I'm a Brew fan as well, not as a head coach, but at the way he took the high road when he left. He certainly could have pointed blame back at Maturi, who I think should take a lot of the heat for Brew's failure. But he never did. He's only spoken highly of Minnesota, never took a shot at anyone. Compare that with Old Jer...

There's a certain age when the audience for these things kind of ages out. I don't hear these sorts of things happening in the NFL or other pro sports. In the military, this kind of stuff generally ends after the training phases. But in the gung-ho, prove yourself phases of life, young men will put up and go along with this for a while before they start to tune out.

Brew's downfall was never being unable to settle on a system for how he wanted the team to play leading to a revolving door at the coordinator spots. In short, he had no idea what he was doing and was not ready to be a head coach, especially at the power 5 level.

But any ill will for the Brewster era should be directed at Maturi and the U for going on the cheap and hiring someone who had no business being in the mix for a power 5 head coaching job.

This video has been making the rounds, thought it deserved its own thread.

Im probably in the minority but a decade he still gets me fired up.

i was at a small birthday party for Pinky MacNamara adn brewster was there. Talked to him for 30 minutes or so, i told him we would really hate to lose him to tennessee. 2 times i have been mind blowing duped. First wife, Brewster and lying Jer kill. Totally bought in to their bullshtt.

Yeah, I'm in my 40's and just watched that. If a grown man told me to stand when he says stand, I'd sit on purpose and challenge him to a fight. I certainly wouldn't act like these kids did. I feel sorry for them. You wanna yell at me about how I'm running a route, reading the D, etc. fine. That's coaching. But telling another grown man to stand...?

He also was a professional after the fact.

The guys is the quintessential assistant coach. He's a good recruiter and stuff like this is pretty common.

It's not his fault he was given a job he wasn't qualified for. What's he supposed to do, turn it down? By all accounts he tried his best to win here, he just wasn't ready for a job like this. I've also never heard him badmouth the U after his firing. I root for him wherever he goes.

Yep. Based on his jobs since and this video, he's in the right position as recruiter and position coach.
