Have we grown in expectations so much we don't bother discussing bowl eligibility any more?

I'll put it out there now. If we don't win another game, we still go to Detroit.

Hoping for Capital One or Outback though.

Or possibly being the first FBS team ever to win two bowl games in the same season.

As I wrote in the "times they are a changing" thread, this is the first time in my lifetime that qualifying for a bowl, is a minor "note" in the post game narrative. To me, that shows we're turning a corner for the program. I know there will be years again where that is the case and it is a big storyline, but for at least this year, it's a footnote.

Go Gophers!!

7-2 in the last 9 B1G games. This blows away all other accomplishments for me today. It's all about Conference wins, right Wren?

We can talk about the bowl game after we've been officially eliminated from the College FB playoffs.

I think it became clear after The Michigan and NW wins that the fans base had their sights set higher than just getting bowl eligible like in past years. No longer are we interested in some low-tier crappy bowl.

6 W's and a bowl were my minimum expectations with 7 W's the max. for this bunch.

The last three games have been a great run and its good to hear that just making a bowl is no longer their goal.

I thought we agreed that MEGATHREAD should always be in ALL CAPS

I am always amazed, and I realize this could be the year. The Gophers are Bowl Eligible on October 18th, and nothing. A little inside, during the hay days of husker football, the travel agencies would be putting together package deals. And with the Harvest nearly complete, thought turned to Miami, New Orleans, Orlando, Tempe. The combination of a get away vacation and a game, became so common place. They were booking in April. But in an age of decentralized booking on line. You don't see anything in the Twin Towns home to Carlson Wagonlit. Those trips, tickets, room, and meals take a pretty good dose of disposable income. And it was just part of the season.

I get your point but you also have to factor in the sheer volume of bowl games that are out there now as opposed to years past. Where we sit right pretty much every Big Ten Bowl game is still in play as an option so putting together any sort of travel package right now would be really hard to do since we have no clue what day or what location we might be playing in of the 7 or 8 or whatever choices there are now.

And I like this shift where just being bowl eligible isn't that big of a deal to a lot of people because again with the massive number of bowl games and ability to schedule creampuff non-conf games you basically just have to not stink in order to get to a bowl game. I am still not ready to jump on the "Indy or Bust" train but this team is definitely in a position to set their sights on one of the more premium Bowl destinations in the conference as opposed to the lower tier games we have spent most of our time at in recent history. The next two games are very winnable before that end of the season stretch that will define if this is a good season or a great season.

+1

I am excited that bowl eligibility is now a fairly minor footnote, but I think that says a lot about how far we had fallen. To get to bowl eligibility, we need to not choke against directional Illinois, MTSU, and SJSU, and then go 3-6 against our Power 5 competition. Obviously, it says a lot about the job Coach Kill has done that we have climbed out of the mess where bowl eligibility in doubt, but going forward, missing a bowl game should be the mark of a terrible season. We have a chance to have a very special season, we are 3-0, and should be favored in our next two. The sky is the limit, and everyone in our division looks beatable, so I am really pumped to see where it goes.

Ah...6 wins and you want a mega thread on bowl games? Might want too wait a few games.

Interesting sub-plot to me moving forward is the politics involved regarding bowl games and where the Gophers end up. Finish 9-3 or better and it'd be very difficult to ignore the Gophs for a top-tier Big Ten bowl. But finish 8-4 or 7-5 and the politics come into play. Would the conference step in and force a reluctant bowl into taking the Gophers?

I find it humorous, ironic, and somewhat a pisser that the Gophers could win the Big Ten for the first time in almost 50 years and still not go to the Rose Bowl.

If we win the Big Ten, I would find some way to console myself.

I've thought about that as well. That'll be our luck. I guess we'll just have to win it two years in a row...
