Boom

Glad to have the talent here at a position of need. High end size gives us a different look at WR.

I wonder why he wasn't getting much run at Auburn. While in terms of modern football reputation it's a "transfer down" Auburn has had a worse record than the Gophers for each of the last 7 non-Covid years.

If he wasn't a factor there he might not be a factor on a better team.

Could be another Coleman, but looks good on paper. I guess all of these additions could turn out that way too. Or maybe all will become All-Americans? I'll go with that one.

That's the thing. We don't seem to get much out of these high profile receivers coming in, because many times, they just aren't that good.

Aren't we due?

Hope he becomes a lead receiver for us. The more I watch the high end teams receivers, the more I think quickness and speed are much more valuable than size. Maybe that's a "duh" moment, but if the guy can't get separation vs man to man coverage, size is almost worthless.

Ran a sub 11 100m in high school so he's got the speed to take the top off

The cynic in me worries that this addition won’t work out given their track record of adding previously highly rated WRs with little success at their first school.

Hopefully, I’ll be proven wrong this time.
I agree. Dylan Wright from TCU, Tyler Williams from Georgia and Malachi Coleman, all were a bust. We're do.

There are millions of reasons why highly touted transfer/recruited WR's never work out. Sure, sometimes it's completely their fault, but there are many things at play. There's only one football.

he instantly becomes the most physically gifted WR on our roster.....now we can see if Fruechte can get the most out of him!

I don't know enough about football to explain the intricacies of route running or how to get receivers open.....but it seems the last couple years our receivers always lack separation. Maybe a combination of Fruechte being able to coach route running better, combined with his ideas for a better playbook will help us in that department.

Concur with your diagnosis Doctor...

Is there anywhere that All 22 film is provided for Gophers or college games?

I admit I'm not going to sit and personally watch it all offseason, but in my experience route running and coverages are the aspect of the game that is most different from watching a game on regular TV and being in the stadium.

In person you can see who isn't getting open, where the safeties are lining up, who's being doubled, who was wide open and was missed.

The TV seldom shows any of those battles unless there was a penalty.

As much as I am excited about this announcement, I hope he turns out better than our other former big time HS WR recruits in the portal: Malachi Coleman, Dylan Wright, Tyler Williams

Those three guys came from pretty good offenses and were buried deep on those depth charts. 17 receptions last year isn't a lot but Thompson still ended up with the 4th most receptions on the team. Auburn wasn't very good and struggled at QB. Their top two WRs were a guy was a transfer from Georgia Tech and a guy that was previously the #5 overall prospect.

It's also weird that a 6'3" WR with good speed only averaged 9.1 yards a catch so not sure if they used him in the slot?

Dylan Wright is a top 75 wideout in gopher history.
He left after two seasons then had injuries at TCU

He didn’t live up to his potential upside but I am not sure he belongs with the other two.

Gopher WRs isn’t exactly the most illustrious list. If you have to go past 74 receivers before getting to his name, that probably isn’t a good sign.

Not sure on the other two but in the case of Wright specifically it seemed like off the field issues were the biggest thing cutting into his playing time and production. Was a real bummer because he showed flashes of the kind of player he could be but it just never seemed to come together for him.

Wright showed flashes but if I remember correctly, he also had complete and total boneheaded moments.
