Bobby Bell Jersey retirement

It seems that it took us a long time to retire Bell's number. Does football follow the same requirement as basketball as far as earning a degree before your number can be retired?

Also, how is Coach Cosgrove son doing? Still hospitalized?

Bobby Bell's number being retired is long overdue. Probably the 3rd best player in gopher history (Nagurski, Smith)

I hope they are just retiring "Jerseys" and not numbers going forward, since in college football they need all of the numbers they can have. I know 54, 10 and 72 have not been used for years, but they cannot continue to retire the actual number when someone is honored.

I agree with putting Bell ahead of Bruce Smith, but (in my opinion) Giel is the #2 player in Gopher history. Bell would be #3.
