Bob Sansevere on U: Just one of their 10 wins had you go, “Wow!” The victory over Penn State, and that’s it.

BS has such a lazy and ridiculous take. As a team improves and expectations are raised there are clearly going to be less “wow” wins. There are very few teams that are ranked in the top 10 that truly have wow wins. I really enjoyed this season. Would it have been better if we had beaten Wisconsin and Iowa? Absolutely. But this program is going in the right direction. One that will ensure that there will be only 2 - 4 wow wins even possible during years when we have to most difficult of schedules. If we can get all the non-wow wins and 1 or 2 wow wins a year, we’ll be in the hunt for a B1G championship nearly every year. Eat that BS.

Gophers schedule now ranked 27th in the country. It wasn't great but it wasn't that bad either.

This.

You also have to beat the teams you play.
See Wisc - IL. See SC-GA etc.

I have already posted my thoughts about why rivalry games are emphasized to a larger degree (rightfully so). But respect a SOS in the top 30 and winning 10 games in a P5 conference.

The people like Bob Sansevere are not true Gopher fans. They were around because this was a good story and they will be back off the bandwagon as soon as there is any adversity. "Bandwagon Bob" and the rest are not any help and I am sure they will all be out badmouthing the team tomorrow on the radio and it's business as usual.

We don't need him or anyone else like him. True Gopher fans know we are building something special here and this will be a fun team to watch in the future.

Row the boat!

Well said.

To determine "wow" wins.
Take current Top 25 CFP teams.
Look at losses. See who beat those teams. Those are teams with a "wow" win.
Very few teams other than LSU will have more than 1.

Teams that will have one of them:
Georgia Southern
South Carolina
Auburn
Illinois
Michigan
Minnesota
Arizona State

A few others.

Not one thing that Bob Sansevere has ever written has made me say "Wow."

Wow, what a piece of writing Bobby. I bet there was perspiration dripping from your brow as words flowed out of your pen. It had to take some effort to crawl out from under the rock you hide under to write such a brilliant piece. Over time, I have only read a couple pieces of your drivel, and your latest waste of space just refreshed my memory why I always by-pass your column.

The decline in the print media industry starting in the 90s seemed to spawn the quadfecta of negative sports writers in this market of Sansevere, Reusse, Powers and Barreiro. Barreiro jumped to radio full time and seems more objective now. The other three are slowly going away or are pretty much gone (Powers). Thank goodness.

So Bob was right?

Is this guy even actively working anymore?

Wasn't it a "WOW" that we finally crushed all the Big Ten teams we're supposed to crush?

Is this a requirement to comment on football? Sansevere had a bad take in his column, but this one is even worse.
Whatever dude, sarcasm much? Bob Sanservere likes to take digs at Gophers football just like Reusse. You could say the same thing Sanservere is saying about many NFL games and seasons as to wow wins. He wasn't paying attention to easy wins on road or how Iowa game and Wisconsin better opponents than most SEC teams play. Sanservere is asshat, if you ever met him you would know.

Bob Sansavere believes in psychic powers and has one on his podcast almost every day. I really would not worry about what he thinks.

Take the high road. Be better than the people that troll you.

10 - 2 in the BIG is excellent though obviously not as stellar as Ohio State. Fleck has turned the ship (or row boat?) and is clearly headed the right direction.

Bob’s right.
The season as a whole - 10 Wins - should make you say WOW; but, PSU is really the only win that does.
Gophers destroyed October competition. Destroyed! Those were all wow wins. How many teams in the county have top five wins on their resume?

season was a wow season.

Georgia and LSU are only SEC teams with winning record against ranked teams.

A wow season: probably 3+ more wins than expected or top 20 at end of year
A wow win: win over top 20 team at the end of the year or top 15 team at time of playing

Something like that, so...

Well I would agree there was only one "WOW" win, IMO one of the differences between past years is there was no "WOW" losses. Every year the Gophers seem to lose a game or two they shouldn't, and that did not happen this year. If that trend continues, and the Gophers continue to get at least one "WOW" win per year, there are going to be a lot of 8, 9, and 10 win seasons, which would be great!

Exactly. There are plenty of online options now including gh and others. In the future the fans have lots of good options with writers that actually like the teams, players, and fans. Daniel House comes to mind as a person that is passionate about the subject he writes about.

How did we ever get into the situation where listening to pompous depressing old guys that hate the players/coaches and generally despise the fans was fun? Somewhere they forgot how to be the local sports guy and a lot of people forgot how to be fans.

How enjoyable is it to watch these guys fade into obscurity?

per Sansevere:

The Gophers finished the regular-season with a 10-2 record. It’s not as impressive as it looks.

Just one of their 10 wins had you go, “Wow!” The victory over Penn State, and that’s it.

On a day when there was sleet and snow and a flurry of big plays by Wisconsin, the Gophers lost because the Badgers were better and because they still haven’t figured out how to handle success.

Handling success is a huge step in the maturation of a team. The Gophers experienced success in beating then-No. 4 Penn State on Nov. 9. That win wasn’t a fluke. It wasn’t program-altering, either. After a 9-0 start, where they stood after Penn State, the Gophers lost two of their last three games.

Over their dozen games, the Gophers roused a fan base and injected excitement into a program that has been mostly average for the past half century. Fleck and his players deserve a hearty clap on the back for that but, really, what did they do on the field that was extraordinary?

Go Gophers!!
We were outplayed by one team: Wisconsin. Johnson drops a pass on the Iowa four yard line - if he catches it, we win. Nevertheless, a 10-2 record looks VERY good to me.

Which Alabama win makes one go Wow?

I hope next year we go 12-0 with zero WOW wins.

I hope MI, WI, and IA are all just ordinary, run of the mill wins.

WOW wins are overrated anyway. Just count as 1 win.

Let’s get back to that debate about how we aren’t a sensitive fan base. Holy Cow.

Here is how relevant that Bob Sansavere's work is to me.... A GOOD high school and college buddy of mine is a REGULAR part of Sansavere's daily podcast. I have listened to it exactly ZERO times.
