Bo Ryan clock management

I'll take "Crappy Wisconsin endgame clock management" for $400, Alex.

Speaking of that 5-star recruit, how is Bo letting his best offensive threat play only 22 minutes in that game? Coleman struggled to keep up with Dekker any time he was on the floor, and Dekker had a major advantage in height/length. I realize Ryan's MO is to not play freshmen a ton, particularly because of defense, but this kid isn't the average incoming frosh to UW either.

Agree completely. Every time he came in I'd get worried and pray he didn't score. Evans I hoped would touch the ball every time down the floor. Mind boggling why he doesn't play more.

Badgers were a preseason top 25 team this year, the Gophers weren't.

Is it bad coaching by Bo that his team couldn't score a bucket in over 9 minutes of game time? Or how about the shot by Jackson to end the game - desperation and it didn't even come within 2 feet of the rim. Must be bad coaching...

Coaches can only do so much, then it comes down to players. Our biggest problem this year hasn't been coaching, it has been an inability to shoot. We simply only have 2 players that can make a jump shot on the entire team. Not real hard to defend against, and much less to do with coaching.

Amen!!!! Someone who gets it!!!!

Wisconsin Badgers
Jordan Taylor left Wisconsin without a Big Ten title, an achievement the talented guard coveted and one that has eluded the UW program since 2007-08. Taylor, who started 87 games and played in 136 over four seasons, never experienced an NCAA Regional Final. Yet despite that disappointment, Taylor believes that UW, which has reached the Sweet 16 in each of the last two seasons under Bo Ryan, is poised for greater success. Can UW end its Big Ten title drought and make a deeper NCAA Tournament run in 2013? The Badgers should field a deep and veteran frontcourt, two experienced guards and several new faces who could contribute immediately.

I'm so sick of people on this board saying Wisconsin is so much less talented than the Gophers. Preseason, Wisconsin was in everyones top 25 between 17 and 23. Minnesota was not in the top 25 anywhere, but now the way some on here are saying it, the only reason Wisconsin is able to stay in the same gym with the Gophers is because Tubby's awful coaching. What a joke!!! Please do some research before you go on saying stupid crap!!!!!

Something about Bo Ryan screwing up there makes me really really happy. Also, what a moron move by Scuba Steve running on the baseline! I am on cloud nine. Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

The guy has the highest winning percentage in B10 basketball history...don't think anyone should be questioning Bo's chops as of yet. If his players hit one shot in the last 6 minutes we aren't having this conversation. Coaches can only do so much. Happy for the Gopher's win, but it was extremely fortunate, especially seeing what they just did against OSU.

Bo Ryan came into a much better situation at Wisconsin than Tubby did at Minnesota. Wisconsin was coming off three straight NCAA berths and two years removed from a Final Four appearance. Minnesota was coming off a season of 7 total wins. It's possible it would have taken Bo more time to make the tournament if he had come into a less desirable situation.

This is not true, at least not the "much better" part. Here's why:

Bo Ryan's first season at Wisconsin was 2001-02. His team had one returning starter and only eight scholarship players. His team was picked to finish 9th in the 11-team Big Ten. The team started out 1-4. They shared the Big Ten title.

That starting position for Ryan is not unlike Smith's in 2007, who had McKenzie, Coleman and Tollackson has returning seniors, along with Abu-Shamala and Jon Williams as returning juniors, supplemented by Westbrook, Nolen, and Hoffarber.

Minnesota is a more talented team, preseason rankings don't rank talent.

That move puzzles most Badger fans too and Bo's explanation is a typically obtuse comment. He doesn't like to admit an error, just like the mistake in leaving Evans in at the end of OT in the Mich game was also a mistake. But one of his admirable qualities is that he almost never throws the players or the coaches (who were the ones that made the error in sending Evans into the game) under the bus, unlike Tubby who's always throwing the players out.

That said, I don't think anyone is seriously calling for Bo's head when the Badgers have a legit shot at a tie for the league title and it looks like they will again finish in the top 4 to keep his streak alive. As much as Gopherholers hate it, it's difficult to deny that he is just a great coach. UW may have been ranked in the 20s at the beginning of the season but that was before losing Gasser for the season. How do you think you would be without Dre for the whole season?
