I am glad you mentioned much greater gut punches.
As a 16 year old kid who loved basketball, my best friend was diagnosed with brain cancer shortly after the basketball season ended in March. He was dead by June. Talk about a gut punch.

Sometimes, just getting up and putting on clothes is a miracle when you think all hope is lost. The capacity to recover sometimes takes years. Even now, 40+ years later, the reminder of pain gets triggered. You realize that you made it because God has had a purpose for you to keep living and comfort others with the comfort by which you were comforted.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
