University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill enjoyed this past weekend.

Kill raised a little money for his program, got to spend time with Gopher and NFL legend Bobby Bell and was part of a fund-raiser held by the Minnesota Chapter of the NFL Alumni Association Sunday at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.

"I had a good weekend," Kill said. "Dick Coleman, who I knew when I was at Pittsburg State, flew in with Bobby Bell. I got a chance to spend some time with them at the (Minnesota-Michigan) basketball game. Dick made a nice contribution to our program while he was here."

"Coach Kill is a special person, one who has time for everyone and is not looking over your shoulder at who's in the room to talk to next."

I wonder if Sid heard that.

In writing about Sid. I remember one time I was watching a Gopher football football scrimmage when Mase was coach. I remember watching and the crowd was about seven people deep. I remember Sid coming late and bowling his way through the crowd. Then he walks up and down the sidelines in front of everyone like Vince Lombardi inspecting his team. You could tell Sid thought a lot about himself.

Sid is still alive and still thinks a lot of himself. solid ego

+++++++

This is my #1 reason why I, and would think most people, viscerally and correctly recognize and understand our AD for the impotent and empty suit that he is, and why "net-net", under his regime/tenure, our major sports have floundered in an unprecedented and historically long period of mediocrity.

Even Tubby cannot escape the bad karma.

The first time I met the guy, as we were shaking hands, he was feigning interest (poorly, I would add) in our conversation, not listening to a single word I said. When I have repeated this encounter to many other people, I was not surprised to hear that the very same thing happened to them.

I would get more agitated about all this, and start or join letter-writing campaigns for his ouster - but knowing his "reign endeth soon", and being a tried-and-true Minnesotan, I can and will stoically endure until that happy day comes.

So Mrs Rouser and I were at the NFL Gala described in the blog. We got to briefly meet Coach Kill. Very nice fellow..really salt of the earth.. no surprises here.

So, being the Gopher fan I am..the only silent auction item that interested me was a framed panaromaic photo of the TCF opening game..yeah, the one we all have (mine still in tube waiting to get framed..) but this one had a cool added feature..so we pulled the trigger.. :)

Hi Rouser,

I was there as well. Hard to find people as genuine and down to earth as Coach Kill. From my short talk with him I believe when he says "we" have a long ways to go he really means it. Hard for people that meet him not to like or believe him. A former Gopher/NFLer told me that while he comes off simple and humble he has plans, expectations and confidence that will blow your mind. He could not say enough good things about Coach.

Awesome.

I just would like to add that I'm in that picture. Whenever you are at TCF in the future, I'll be glad to sign it for you as well. =)

That Air Force game + on campus afterwords is the best nite of my college experience so far

Yes, it was awesome.. I don't know how you could top the good vibes going on during that day...I guess a rose bowl appearance would be the only way...
