Even though we're losing & that stinks, the odds of Hollins/Chip becoming passable SG's this season was far greater than the odds of Maverick becoming a passable PG this season. Tonight Hollins/Chip combined for 18pts, 4 rebs, 4 stls, 1 ast, 3 to's. If they can maintain that type of stat line we should win the last 3 games.

Even though it wasn't flashy, Hoffarber did have 6 assists and only 1 TO tonight. Not too shabby.

That being said, I think him playing the PG really takes away his ability to get involved offensively...he just can't get any decent looks. The one open shot he had tonight he drained.

I just don't know if we have any other options at this point...

I disagree. Putting Blake at the point made us worse at two positions. I'd much rather we suffered some ups and downs at the point and kept Blake where he belongs and could help this abysmal offense score. We should have went with Armelin and Maverick right off the bat and they would be playing better right now.

No, they're aren't any other options at PG. If Maverick was running the show tonight against Mich St they would have pressed from end-to-end & I seriously doubt Blake would have had many looks either. At least with Blake at PG Chip/Hollins are getting some looks & becoming threats.

Hollins/Chip scored 18pts tonight, what was Blake's avg before the Nolen injury? Armelin at PG? Crazy talk! The ONLY player who would have a chance at PG besides Blake is Maverick. If Maverick was named PG, it would have been like throwing in the towel on the season & I'm sure the upperclassmen knew that.

No, not too shabby. Not good enough though. His 6 assists and only 1 turnover do not tell the story of the offensive sets that ended up with Hoffs 1 for 8 shooting night and the countless last second shots that not hurt most of the gophers shot statistics.

Agreed. Chip played well last night, but he can't handle the ball any better than Hollins or Williams. All three can't protect the ball at all-whether it is dribbling or passing. Chip masks some of his issues by being able to drive. Williams doesn't mask his bad dribbling skills at all. Hollins is only slighty better than Williams. All three are better suited for SG or SF and nothing else.

Mav can at least control himself for the most part, but he would be eaten alive if forced to go 30 minutes. He might end-up with ten turnovers imo.

Blake is the only option for major pg minutes no matter how much we miss him at the sg.

Completely agree w/ that. Look, I know he's slow and I know he's not a flashy ballhandler by any means, but I would not want to see Maverick run the show. We saw what happened when he played extended minutes vs Illinois. I understand the argument that Blake needs to be playing the 2 to get more involved offensively, but really the big issue is dribble penetration. If we don't have a PG to get to the rim (Al), it's pretty difficult to get your off guard clean looks. Here's to a 3 game winning streak to finish it out and salvage (what's left) of the season.

I agree with you CRG!

blake is a the best player to ever come out of the state of minnesota! he never does anything wrong. i hope next year we can win one game without him!

Blake is not the right choice!

I am not a big fan of ripping players, but Blake is not the right choice at point guard. When he runs the point the team just stands around. He cannot manage a game. We had a seven point lead with 4 minutes or less last evening. A good point guard would always work hard to get the inbound pass and actually drive in and get fouled when the game is on the line. He is just painfully slow.

With all that being said, he was fine at the 2 position. Mav is by no means a great point guard at this point in his career, but Tubby has made a huge mistake, not playing him at point and asking the other four starters to step up at their position. We just aren't the same team with Blake's lead feet running the team.

No matter the position, he made a really dumb foul when the game was tied under a minute left to play. A senior guard at the 1 or 2 doesn't grab a player. That was really dumb. He has showed some game at the two spot, but cannot handle a defensive pressure minded point guard at the D1 level. Blake doesn't need to play harder, he is trying. He just lacks the athletic ability and talent needed to help us win down the stretch at the point guard position.

Hoffarber needs to understand this: When somebody gets a rebound....you are the PG...go get the ball. If he could figure that part out this team would be much better at the position.

That was one of the dumbest fouls I have ever seen at the end of a game, but he is the only option we have for a starting pg. Mav is not the guy to log big minutes. Who else is there? No one.
