Bill Belichick has banned Patriots scouts from attending UNC practices to scout their players

It is falling apart quicker than I thought it would but this seemed like a dumb hire right from the beginning.

It just keeps getting WORSE:

Belichick and Lombardi said they preferred doing their own evaluations, the sources said, as Mack Brown’s remaining staff prepared for the Fenway Bowl. A since-departed Brown staffer still there at the time described a chaotic atmosphere. Belichick had made only a few hires to that point, and they did not yet have defined roles.
“It was like this weird revolving door of people in and out of meetings,” the ex-staffer said. “They fired some GAs and QCs, and then realized they didn’t have enough help and called a couple of them to come back after having fired them.”
“Initially, they thought people would flock to play for (Belichick) and take less money,” said a university source, “but they realized fast that that wasn’t the case.”

Lombardi, who signed a three-year, $4.5 million contract that made him the highest-paid general manager in college football, serves as UNC’s point person when negotiating with agents. The Athletic spoke to six agents with clients who either played for UNC or were pursued by the team in the portal; most described Lombardi as either abrasive or dismissive toward them during their negotiations.

LOL WTF

So according to their story their plan now is to bring in 40+ high school recruits and basically not use the portal at all. What a cluster.

Feels like Belichick and Lombardi just assumed everyone would believe they know what they are doing because of Belichick's name and it is not working out that way at all.

What a mess and if they do stick around and go heavy on high school recruits it won't get better anytime soon.

It's funny because this lesson has been learned time and again.

There's no real evidence that "NFL" staff provides much of the way of a competitive advantage in recruiting.

Not that you can count on.

If he was more of a players coach like an Andy Reid I think you probably land some guys just because of the name. He's at least likeable. But Belichick is old school, grumpy, and unlikable. Not generally someone you want to play for until they've proven themselves.

NFL to college just doesn't work in this day.

I think it is clear they thought players would flock to the opportunity to play for Belichick and his name clearly doesn't have the level of clout they thought it would.

Can't imagine why 17-18 year old kids aren't fired up about playing for a crabby 73 year old head coach who is desperate to prove his success wasn't all just because he had the GOAT under center for him.

Agree that an Andy Reid type would have more success then Belichick in this environment but yeah....the NFL and college games are very different and the players playing at the two levels are very different.

NFL guys, it is their livelihood and career.....college guys....it might end up being that for a handful of them but most of the players will never see a single snap in the NFL.

Maybe they can bang his girlfriend?
