Any one else think about how having only 15/18 make the tourney probably kills attendance
There are 8 teams within one game and 9 teams within 2 games of being out

Half the conference might not make the tourney 9 days before the tourney starts. Hard for fans to book trips that way.

Hard to determine from crowd shots on TV so far.

It still seemed surreal watching Oregon & UCLA playing this afternoon.

I would expect lots of Spartan fans to make the reasonable drive to Indianapolis for tomorrow afternoons contest.

I've watched quite a few tourney games this year from different conferences, and attendance seems awful across the board, it's not just the B1G.

College sports is in big trouble. Haven't watched 1 second of a single game other than the games the Gophers have played in all season. The NCAA better get their greed under control or it is going to collapse. 14 SEC teams being speculated of getting bids... New rosters every year... No thanks.

Word. Besides the turn-off of greed and money--which fans of college sports have traditionally sought refuge from when it comes to pro sports--there's the bullshit of your team being all new players every year. Pro teams have way more continuity by comparison and the ability for fans to get attached to players. The NCAA and their schools are in the process of killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

And now they want to expand the tournament to 76...

I wonder as well if the new rosters every year affect fan interest. Part of the fun was watching a player develop over 4 yrs and also having a feeling who was on other rosters year to year.

It's hard enough just to keep track of which teams are IN the Conference much less who is on the rosters.

When I saw that Cochrane was transferring, I was like, oh yeah, I think I've heard of him.

So far largest crowd was the Friday night Quarters, which included essentially hometown Purdue. Attendance was just short of 14,000. That's more than 3,000 less than the 17,200+ capacity at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Perfect encapsulation of the state of things. Well said.

100%.

Likely in the minority but I hope Betts returns. Looks pretty doubtful he'll be a major contributor when all is said and done, but who knows, maybe he'll pull a Jim Peterson and be a real factor by his Senior year. Love to see that stuff happen when it does.

Hope Frank the Tank returns. What would Big Frank bring next year now that he has settled into Big Ten ball? Feels like quite a lot based on the last 10 games or so.

Asuma could be a big time star. Would be so fun to watch his progression the next 3 seasons.

Groves. How would he develop from a Frosh to a Senior?

Through experience of attending 15 Big 10 Tournaments in person, Semi-final Saturday is generally the toughest ticket, often Sold Out well in advance.

Today's announced attendance, 13,612. Gainbridge Fieldhouse capacity is 17,274.

I think it depends. If the team is winning people will show. The SEC is packing their arenas and basketball is bigger than ever down there but programs struggling to win are also struggling to draw fans.

Looking at guys like Tonje and even our own former guy Jaden Henley, guys do still develop. Few have the patience for it. Henley is averaging 12.2 pts per game at UNLV as a junior. He might end up being an all conference player out there as a senior. Crazy, but some kids take time.
