This is a really good site to get stats for Big Ten games only.

Last year, the Gophers gave up .98 points per possession. This year, they are giving up 1.06 points per possession.

That, in a nutshell is the problem with this team. It is surprising, given that Tubby usually hangs his hat on defense. Given the distractions the team has had and the effort it takes to play good defense, maybe there is a correlation there.

Great site- thank you. A subset of that issue is our astonishingly poor defense against the 3pt basket (about 41%). We far and away the worst in the Big Ten, if we were giving up the Big Ten average (mid 30's)we might be a lot better off. Meanwhile the eyes also tell us that this team is far from an offensive juggernaut either. It just looks pitiful. Perhaps it all goes back to effort as you say, but something is amiss.
