Big Ten Recruiting Special is on now.

We have very few advantages and many disadvantages. If we made a list of 20 important qualities we would not score well on many compared to our Big Ten competition. Gameday is one of those 20 (?). A better gameday would help? Yep. TCF will or could help.

The thesis that it is mostly about the effort of the coaches is shallow, old and does not help explain our 49 year absence from the Rose Bowl.

See, this is a coherant argument with quite a bit of merit. Let's compare it to your earlier posts in this thread:

Oh for pete's sake! Have you been to a Big Ten game at OSU? If Charlize Theron wants you and "shows you around her place" Ugly Betty is going to have a hard time holding on to you.

We have a long, long, long way to go to be able to put on a gameday show with the heavy hitters. TCF will help. So would one half the fans Ohio State puts in their stadium every game.:(

Game day at the 'Shoe' is not in the same league as game day at the Dome by a factor of what?

Three? Four? 3.543? Go to a game at the Shoe and then come back here and run your mouth about that would not impress you. Talk about hicks from the sticks!! Don't brag about it.

That Columbus is a garden spot.

The recruits go to a game on game day. Neither Columbus nor Minneapolis is a garden spot. What they see is gameday and all that goes with it. We are not within 100 miles of what they see at OSU. Thus, a logical recruit might be wowed by that experience, not the garden experience of Columbus.

Duh?

I will stick to my original statement. If you have not been to a football game at the Shoe you do not know what you are talking about. If you have been to such a game and think it is likely that a recruit would see the advantage of Gopher football, please say so.

TCF could help if we grow some fans who can invest four hours from their so busy schedules. I can tell you from experience there are a ton of such fans at the Shoe on college game days.

Well, it only took 4 headsmackingly silly quotes to get to something that acknowledges reality. I don't think any objective fan would argue that OSU gets a headstart in recruiting with some attributes that the U can't match. I'd contest your assertion of "Big Ten Competition" which suggests we are at the bottom of the conference when I'd argue we're in the middle if you look at overall factors.

So I'm going to give you a shot to participate in an actual discussion...can you give me what you view to be the Top 20 factors in recruiting? You can give me fewer but I think we probably need to get to 10. I'm betting that if you're reasonable I'll agree with most of them. I'll suggest a few of my own and we can each rate where we think the Gophers fall. We can even make it a new thread (in fact, I'd suggest it). I offer this "challenge" knowing that I can't prove that the Gophers own all the positives. No amount of Kool-Aid could convince me of that. But I am interested to see if you are able to do the same or if the Gophers will fall 0-20. This is a subjective arguement...no real "facts" here. But I think it could be interesting. Care to give it a shot?

Wanted to let you know that I'm not ignoring my "challenge"...I want to give it some thought and unfortunately my short breaks at work don't really provide that. :)

I'll try to respond in full tonight or tomorrow.
