they just talk and still talking about Minnesota. someone said Minnesota may have gotten a steal of a signing. did not hear who that player was.
Mason went on at considerable length about the raw upside of Minnesota raised players compared to the rankings they are given. He said if you give players like Decker or Laurinitus a chance, they can be excellent players. He said he thinks Brewster is seeing that more now.
If anyone is interested you can go to the Big Ten Network site and see the complete interview with Brewster.

He also gave a huge plug for his personal baby, TCF Bank Stadium which he called both magnificent and a huge boost to our recruiting.
My recollection is that Laurinitis committed to the Gophers and then went to Ohio, saw what the Buckeyes had to offer and reneged on his commitment to us. Both James and his father have both publicly stated that OSU just blew them away.
Perhaps now that we have TCF, we will win a few more of those battles. If you have not been to a game at the Shoe you do not know what we are up against.
I read that Mason also lost the coach who had done the main recruiting of Laurinitis, which probably didn't help.
Not to mention you need to continue to recruit players that have already committed so that they don't get cold feet and look for greener pastures. The word is that after Lauranitis committed the Gophers stopped wooing him.

And the assistant coach area is the one place I will give Mason a break. Maturi has given Brewster a much better budget for assistant coaches, which should lead to greater retention in the long run.
Which appears to be the reason Carter just switched to us.
Oh for pete's sake! Have you been to a Big Ten game at OSU? If Charlize Theron wants you and "shows you around her place" Ugly Betty is going to have a hard time holding on to you.
We have a long, long, long way to go to be able to put on a gameday show with the heavy hitters. TCF will help. So would one half the fans Ohio State puts in their stadium every game.
Game day at the 'Shoe' is not in the same league as game day at the Dome by a factor of what?
Three? Four? 3.543? Go to a game at the Shoe and then come back here and run your mouth about that would not impress you. Talk about hicks from the sticks!! Don't brag about it.
What are you even talking about right now? What is message is this replying to?
That Columbus is a garden spot.
The recruits go to a game on game day. Neither Columbus nor Minneapolis is a garden spot. What they see is gameday and all that goes with it. We are not within 100 miles of what they see at OSU. Thus, a logical recruit might be wowed by that experience, not the garden experience of Columbus.
Duh?

There is a lot more to the real story and what both James and his father thought of Coach Mason. You, of course, would not be interested in the real story.
I will stick to my original statement. If you have not been to a football game at the Shoe you do not know what you are talking about. If you have been to such a game and think it is likely that a recruit would see the advantage of Gopher football, please say so.
TCF could help if we grow some fans who can invest four hours from their so busy schedules. I can tell you from experience there are a ton of such fans at the Shoe on college game days.
This is so asinine. If a recruit is selecting based ONLY on gameday atmosphere then I would say OSU has a distinct advantage (and yes, I've enjoyed a game at the Shoe before). But recruiting is a cumulative process. Someone can be wowed by a gameday atmosphere but for most recruits, or at least for any recruit who is thinking things through, there are other factors. The advantages of a program are not based solely on the gameday atmosphere like you maintain.
Its like asking me if I would choose job A or job B. Job A offers me a bunch more money a year. But I would also have to travel 6 days a week, endure a high stress level, and have poor medical coverage. If we looked only at salaries then Job A would be the winner. But what if I hate travel, or don't like stress, or have medical needs. Perhaps a cumulative look makes more sense?
OSU, Mich, etc have many things to offer that the U cannot. But the reverse is also true. Rant over because I know you enjoy being a hard-headed BS artist and I don't expect logic to make a dent in warped view of the world.
PS: I'd love it if you explained to me how Minnesota is disadvantaged because the Sun revolves around the Earth, all evidence to the contrary.
GoAUpher, being "trapped in Madison", you should be uniquely qualified at trading off game day experience compared to day to day living. I'm not trying to imply anything negative about Madison but life in a typical college town is a different experience. Some people really like it. Others not so much. In Carter's case he is about 20 miles North of Miami. I would think Morgantown, WV would be a bit of a culture shock. I think one of the things Brewster has in his sales kit is the contrast between Minneapolis and a typical college town. Depending on the recruit, this could be a big plus for us.
