Big Ten homecoming kick times announced

2:30 is a great start time. Night games are best and no game should start before 1:00. 11:00 start times suck!

Agreed. As someone that watches most of the games at home I don't mind the 11am starts, but it is bad for the program and fans attending the game.

I don't mind the 11:00 am time when I watch the game at TCF, actually I kinda like it, but I don't like it for games I watch at a bar, which is all of the away games and about half the home games.

I can't stand watching a game in a bar. Too many yahoos. When Freshtrout and I get together for a TV game we make sure not to invite our friends that like to effing VISIT. When it's game time it's game time. Not visit time.

Night game > 2:30 > noon (please make it happen with realignment) < 11am

I'd take 2:30 for homecoming. Have some fun on campus, have some drinks, and get ready to rescue Floyd from the pig f'ers

Play at Michigan and IU for their homecoming? Who do they think we are, IU?

If you want an early bet, take NIU at Purdue.

For those that didn't open the link:

Indiana: Nov. 2 vs. Minnesota, 3:30 p.m. ET

Go Gophers!!

So...is there any chance that they change any of these day games to night games? Wasn't the Syracuse game last year a day game and they changed it?

Nope. All night games have been set. All night games have been announce and set. Last year Syracuse was not a day game, it was a night game from the get go.

I bet we've played in more homecoming games than any other program ever. Hopefully we're on a path to only playing in one a year.

I love that we have avoided 11:00 start times so far. Let's see how long this lasts.

WOW, 2 ABC games. i'm shock on that one. This will be the 3rd and 4th time Jerry Kill will be on ABC as Gophers coach.

Start Times For Games Against Iowa, Indiana and Michigan Announced

May 24, 2013

The Big Ten Conference announced kickoff times for Minnesota’s homecoming game against Iowa on Sept. 28 and road contests at Michigan (Oct. 5) and Indiana (Nov. 2).

The home game against Iowa will begin at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ABC. The Gophers have won two straight home games versus Iowa.

Minnesota’s road games at Michigan and Indiana will also begin at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game at Michigan will be broadcast on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. The broadcast network for Minnesota’s game at Indiana has not been announced yet.

The Gophers now have start times for four games in the 2013 season. Minnesota begins its 2013 campaign against UNLV at home on Thursday, Aug. 29. That game will begin at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

Not Helpful

The Gophers open at home with UNLV at 6:00 Thursday Aug. 29th. The Vikings kickoff their pre-season
schedule on the very same day at home vs Tennessee at 7:00 at MOA Field. The Vikings and the Gophers are essentially partners for the next couple of seasons. Couldn't the Vikings open on Wednesday being NFL pre-season games are scheduled months before the contest, while most college games are scheduled years prior to the event? I realize this one is more recent but it's still minimum 6 months before the NFL. Not helpful, not cooperative, short sighted. We already have the State Fair as either a drain or boon depending on how it's marketed. (Nobody wants to play on Friday and step on high school football)

The Gophers game is on the BTN. That's a plus but...

If the Vikings are on TV, I might watch them.

If the Gophers are on TV, I will watch them.

Gopher game is real season because it counts regarding bowl eligibility. Vikes game is ho hum because it means nothing.

Anyone, ANYONE that would prefer exhibition football over regular season football is a flat out idiot. I mean that.

"Pre-season" football is arguably the biggest joke and biggest rip-off in sports, with no equal. If someone wants to be gouged, ripped off, and fooled to see Adrian Peterson carry the football twice and Christian Ponder get sacked in his only pass attempt, let them.

I don't disagree but it's not the point. It detracts from the Gopher crowd. (It is football!!!) Some people typically attend both. It detracts from dominating the day and creating buzz. The Gophers are the preliminary act to the Vikings in coverage. One day of exclusive hype would be beneficial to Gopher football versus sharing the game day. It's a factor. Should we shut 'er down? Will we survive? Ya, not the point.
You are telling me the Gophers will outdraw the Vikings? You are telling me the fact they are playing on the same night will increase Gopher attendance versus decrease it? Don is going to flip back and forth on TV....rather than pick one...I'd say that'll be the mindset for several...staying home and watching both. It's a factor.

I think you missed my point. I said I would watch the Gophers, and I might watch the Vikes. So, I will watch all of Gopher game, then when that is over I might watch the end of the Vikings. Probably flip to Duck Dynasty instead, however.

Would someone please explain to me the significance of playing another team on their homecoming and why you would not want to do so? Does the other team get more amped up because of a parade and the homecoming queen plus a slightly better than normal homefield advantage?

Usually homecoming games are against 'lesser' opponents. You want to win on homecoming so you pick one of the conference games you should win. Lots of homecoming games scheduled against you means other teams look at you as inferior.

Yep, you're both right though "flat out idiot" might be a little harsh.

Two thoughts:

1. Your opponents are p*****s. Why not rise to the challenge and make it a tough game? We don't have anything like homecoming, but the closest thing to it was Aggie Bonfire in which we played one of our most challenging foes. Our first game last year that we hyped up above all others was against one of our toughest opponents (Florida). Who wants to make a huge deal out of a game that you are "hoping" will be over by halftime?

2. You have two great opportunities this year to really mess up someone's day for underestimating you. I hope you make their homecoming king and queen cry after their loss.

6:00 Thursday night? So, I'm supposed to get out of work at 5:00, drive to St. Paul campus in the middle of the State Fair, and get to the game by 6:00??? How am I going to fit my typical half dozen + beers in before the game????

I'm not really all that pumped about Thursday's either. Me and my wife have to take Thursday and Friday off because of the drive up from Sioux Falls. I'm afraid this is going to be a regular occurrence if we want a home game on opening weekend. Also FWIW, I wish we had more October home games and less in November than what the next three years have scheduled.

Easy One! Just call in sick then you'll have plenty of time.
