Big Ten has no plans to reduce B1G play from nine games to eight

Delany's long term plan is world dominance.

One step prior to that, his goal is to create the most massively dominant football conference he can.
I believe it's more likely he goes to a 10 game conference schedule instead of an 8 at this point.

Build in more Big Ten expansion targets where either Michigan, Ohio State or Texas are playing Texas every year and you pretty much just doubled your TV contract value by adding another week of conference games.

His point will be simple. Own half of the top 30-40 brands in college football and then just wait for the public reactions anytime the NCAA / ESPN / SEC decides to ignore the conference with all of the powerhouse names.

Realistically the NCAA should standardize how many conference games should be played, the SEC at 8 has artificially inflated records. Especially as they continue to schedule FCS opponents.

They should, but they are too slow to do anything. So Delany will take matters into his own hands as he started to do with his Pac12 agreement a couple years ago before he pulled out. He wants to own the matchups of all of the top brands in football.

I wouldn't be surprised if the conference isn't over 20 teams by 2030. Oh, you don't want to buy our TV package, that's fine. Go ahead ESPN and air Alabama / Mercer then Auburn vs Austin Peay for your Saturday double-header.
Our network will have Oregon vs Ohio State, Wisconsin vs USC, Michigan vs Texas, and Penn State against Oklahoma. (And Friday night we have Minnesota hosting Oklahoma State.)

They can’t. Literally not in their power to organize conferences or conference rules.
Nor is it in their power to set requirements for admission to a playoff they can’t control.

Are you saying a conference of 8 teams shouldn’t be allowed to form and play 7 conference games?

It's not in their power to organize conferences or conference rules but they can absolutely dictate scheduling with "requirements"

No, and there also are no such conferences.

No, and there also are no such conferences.

The Big 8 was a conference for years.
The ACC was 9 for years.

Conferences should abolsutely and can form as they want.

Agreed. It’s pretty much why we fought the civil war.
