Daniel Jackson led the Gophers in catches (75) and receiving yards (863) in 2024, but he’s gone to the NFL, signing an undrafted free agent deal with the Houston Texans. He’ll be far away from Minneapolis this fall, leaving Minnesota scrambling to fill that top wideout position. Transfers Logan Loya, Javon Tracy and Malachi Coleman will provide an infusion of talent at the position, as will returning wideouts Le’Meke Brockington, Christian Driver, Kenric Lanier II, Nuke Hayes and Tyler Williams.

That’s a lot of new guys mixed in with a lot of returning guys. But who can emerge and be the Golden Gophers’ No. 1 guy at wide receiver? All of it is as up in the air as the passes they’ll be catching come fall camp in trying to be Minnesota’s next Jackson.

I absolutely agree. I read GH and there are a lot of posts about how we are set at QB. And I don't get to see any practices or have super inside knowledge of the team, but I am just not sure how we have any idea at this point what the QB play will look like?

Hope it all works out great, but it seems like the biggest question mark to me.

Agreed 100%. A good qb can make average wrs look great. Great wrs can't really make a bad qb look good, especially if he isn't getting the ball to a spot on time (or at all) . I'll even venture as far as saying the quality of our pass pro is a huge question too. Without those guys, qb confidence gets shot pretty damn quickly and no one is having a good time on offense.
 

QB is big question. Untested red shirt freshman's competence is totally unpredictable. How will he react when those big, fast, quick, strong, nasty athletic guys are hunting him and big, fast, quick, strong, nasty athletic guys are flying all over the field? Huge test! I hope he embraces it and relishes the challenge.

Where are all these posts saying we are set at QB? There is a lot of hope that Drake will be the guy and the way the coaching staff has handled things this off season would indicate they think he is going to be able to get it done as well since they didn't go out and find his replacement they way they did with Athan.

But he is also a redshirt freshman with limited experience so things could go any number of different ways when he hits the field this fall.

Agree with those that see QB as a far bigger question mark than receiver. My guess is the writer went this route because we know Drake is going to be the starter at QB, we know Taylor is going to be the leading rusher as long as he is healthy....but right now we don't know who is going to emerge as the #1 option at WR.
 



While I agree that QB is a concern till proven otherwise, I also think OL may be the biggest concern. If the OL hits the ground running, our Gophers will be able to run. If the team can run even against a stacked box, that should help the QB significantly.
 

While I am also worried about the WR's, I feel the emergence of TE Jameson Geers hasnt gotten enough mention.

The 6-6 250lb Sr to be had a very nice season. As a soph he only had 2 receptions for 10 yards. Last year he broke out for 28 catches for 290 yards, and 4 Td's!
The second most catches and the most TD's by a TE in PJ's tenure here.

I could easily see him getting 40+ for 450-600 yards, and hopefully 6 or more TD's!
 

WR a concern but certainly not #1. QB, OL first, then WR. At least on offense.
 

I'm still hyped about LeMeke Brockington

Another big pass game wildcard is how much Darius Taylor is used as a receiver. A big difference between last season and the others under Fleck was how much Taylor was used in the pass game.

We'll see if that stays constant with a new QB.
