When Warren was asked specifically by Yahoo Sports if Nebraska could play college football this fall, he gave an answer that would make his hardline predecessor nod with approval.

“No,” he said, firmly. “Not and be a member of the Big Ten Conference.”

Kick them out!

Please let them say they’re moving ahead with football this fall!!

The Lincoln and Omaha sports writers are all in for NE to give the finger to the BIG and rejoin the Big 12.
NE lives in their own world and still thinks it is the 90s and NE is competing for national championships.
They were refugees fleeing from the might of TX and the Big Horn TV network and we took them in because Alvarez played thee and was close to St Tom.

out with a whimper. finally have realized they don't have what it takes to compete in the B10 so while the writers may symbolize this as giving the B10 the finger, in reality I'm guessing the B10 would in no way look back and miss Nebraska's presence here

I'm too lazy to go looking for BG10 TV sharing revenue compared to the Big 12, but I'm guessing the BG10 is significantly higher. Now, if Nebby is somehow able to pull in big $$ from playing this fall versus getting nothing, maybe it makes sense for them. I don't know.

If any teams play this fall, it's possible they get a recruiting benefit too.

If Neb were to leave (I would be shocked) I say we bring in Texas ;)

Even if just as a football associate for funs ;)

Kick 'em out. Always taken a bit of pride in that Big 10 schools are also on the forefront of academic achievement, scientific progress and excellence. Of the 65 schools in the Association of American Universities (AAU), 13 are members of the Big 10 (SEC has all of 4 members - FL, Vandy, plus two recent additions - Missouri and Texas A&M). The only Big 10 school not to be a member - Nebraska. Kicked out of AAU in 2011. If applying for the first time, I wonder if they would be allowed into the Big Ten these days.

To be honest if From 1970-1990 the gophers were in a conference of:
Iowa state
Colorado
Oklahoma
Ok state
Kansas
Kansas state
Missouri

We would probably have finished top 3 in our conference a lot more often than we did

not saying we would be Nebraska...but the big 8 wasn’t exactly running the gauntlet. Colorado and Kansas state finally got better in the 90s

I love Wilbon and this rant just gives me more reason.
I haven't seen or heard him ages, but back when I used to watch ESPN he always was a guy I liked listening too.

He had something interesting to say without going full disingenuous troll like so many sports personalities.

This talk of NE got me wondering what the conference records for teams in the B1G West look like since Nebraska joined. Here is my quick tally:

Wisconsin 57-19
Iowa 45-31
Nebraska 40-36
Northwestern 39-37
Gophers 31-45
Purdue 21-55
Illinois 16-60

The Big XII has some unusual model for TV dollars, that no other P5 uses, because they're so dominated by Texas and OU. Basically, it allow those two to sell part of their TV rights on their own, and not share with the conference, and this enables them to at least get closer to the ballpark on total TV dollars of Big Ten/SEC schools.

Nebraska might think it can do something similar. But who wants to pay for a special channel/subscription to watch that shit football team?? Maybe a few folks in Nebraska, but no one else.

But that's all Pelini. He did a decent job for them, when they first got here.

How about since Pelini has left? Nebraska went to mediocre and is now trash.

Nailed it.

The two main factors that allowed Nebraska to rise up were: 1) much more lax rules back then, and 2) weak ass conference other than OU.

Now that things are highly regulated, there's just not that many high star players who want to leave California, Texas, the southeast/Florida to skip over several much better programs in order to go to Lincoln.

Yeah, very true. Don't know as I don't have time to go back and look at different coaches.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nebraska_Cornhuskers_football_seasons

Frank Solich 1998-2003 (Big XII North) -- 58-19 (didn't coach bowl game in 2003)
Bill Callahan 2004-2007 (Big XII North) -- 27-22
Bo Pelini 2008-2010 (Big XII North) -- 29-12
Bo Pelini 2011-2013 (Big Ten Legends) -- 28-12
Bo Pelini 2014 (Big Ten West) -- 9-3 (didn't coach bowl game in 2014)
Bo Pelini total -- 66-27

Mike Riley 2015-2017 (Big Ten West) -- 19-19
Scott Frost 2018-2019 (Big Ten West) -- 9-15

So, they're 28-34 since 2015.

Probably not going to happen but I wish they would LEAVE the conference of their own volition.
They are simply not a good fit. Belong in the Big 12.

Let's get Mizzou! Oh...also let's get rid of Maryland and bring in Vanderbilt. Nashville road trips.
I'd rather kick Rutgers out and keep Maryland but like the Vanderbelt idea a lot. Kick Nebby out for sure.

Nebraska has fine academics, regardless of its membership in some snobby club. Thats not really the issue here. They need to get in line or GTFO.

I don't know anything about their academics, but I would agree that AAU is really sort of a side story that is 'required' (but obviously that's not retroactive) and I suspect if push comes to shove ... B1G athletics would not worry about AAU membership if they had a good candidate to take that wasn't in the AAU, and they'd get in.

Sorry, no. UNL would never have been accepted into the B1G if they were not a member of the AAU. They lost the membership because they failed to keep up the standards. The B1G has always held themselves up to a higher academic standard than most of the other conferences. It is believing that the conference is more of an alliance of schools than just athletics.
