read an article about mike leech not being eligible because his winning % is 59.4%

Criteria to be eligible:
Head coach for 100 games and 10 seasons
Winning percentage over 60%

Eligible at age 75 if active, 70 if retired, 3 years after retirement if under the age of 70.



I am going to ignore the third criteria but give you the status of each big ten coach:

Eligible:
Jim Harbaugh 15 seasons 71.7%
James Franklin 12 seasons 66.7%
Brett Beilema 14 seasons 61.1%
PJ Fleck 10 seasons 60.2%




Not eligible
Ryan Day 4 seasons 88.2%
Lincoln Riley 6 seasons 83.5%
Luke Fickell 6 seasons 71.6%
Chip Kelly 9 seasons 67%
Kirk Ferentz 27 seasons 59.3%
Mel tucker 4 seasons 52.3%
Pat Fitzgerald 17 seasons 52.1%
Matt Rhule 7 seasons 52%
Greg Schiano 14 seasons 47.3%
Tom Allen 6 seasons 42.9%
Mike Locksley 6 full seasons 42.9%

Old gophers coaches:
Claeys 1.5 seasons 57.9%
Kill 23 seasons 60% (eligible)
Mason 21 seasons 50.2%
Holtz 33 years 64.2% (HOF)


Kill needs to go 8-5 or better to stay eligible this year.
Beilema needs to go at least 6-7 this year to stay eligible.
Fleck needs to go 8-5 or better to stay eligible
Ferentz could become eligible at 11-2 or better
Chip Kelly will become eligible if he finishes the season and has at least 1 win.

I intend to update with actual numbers later, but:
Fleck is no longer eligible.
Beilema is no longer eligible

Chip Kelly is now eligible

Jerry Kill remains eligible

Kirk Ferentz remains ineligible


No one else was near the edge and thus retains the status of the original post.
 

Missed the start of this back in June. Good topic and interesting requirements. Ferentz would qualify with a 9 win season next year.

Had Iowa beaten Minnesota, he would’ve been eligible. (Or any of their losses for that matter).


Obviously eligible doesn’t mean you’re in.
Would guess Kirk will get in someday if he meets the threshold. Don’t think BB or PJ have done enough yet.
Cignetti and Franklin would not get in I don’t think.
Chip Kelly would get in because of his impact on the game.
Harbaugh will get in unless his wins get taken away retroactively.

PJ Fleck will get in, no problem. We're paying him enough to cover the $27.25 entrance fee. The only way he gets in.

Just ask him.

Not enough NIL money for him. Not enough balls to coach to win.

If Iowa wins bowl, Ferentz is eligible, if they lose, he isn’t


I honestly won’t be surprised if Ferentz retires at the end of this season

Interesting, if Leach had lead Wazzu to win the 2016 Holiday Bowl against Minnesota under Claeys, his record improves to 158-106 he would be at 60%. Especially noteworthy given how their paths would cross again in Pullman and how that story ended.
