This is from a basketball prospective, but it illustrates performance and hype. If you have played football, been in the locker room, seen the players in the tunnel, and ever wondered why a team comes out flat

This is a sports psychologist talking about finding your hype number

watched it. 100% agree with what he's saying. fun to speculate on but the only person who ever knows how hyped you need to be is yourself. thanks for sharing

Unquantifiable psycho gobbledegook. Hype numbers? Come on. Leave it to a psychologist to come up with this.

I like the video and the way the number is presented because it gives the players something to use when they are getting ready to play. Kind of dumb the way the actors are writing it down. How hard is the concept to remember? But the true psychology of performance is probably a little more complicated than this, so taking it to a level that a group can understand is good. I think only a fool would disregard the potential of psychology in sports. Good coaches understand this and use it to their advantage. I realize that the brick by brick mentality is great, because it serves as a reminder that sports is not just mental, it's a combination of physical and mental. But you absolutely have to have both to play at the highest levels. The psychology comes into play when good receiver starts dropping balls. That's mental. Or when a good quarterback starts to hesitate. The window of opportunity for making the play is open for only a very short period of time. There is no room for doubt.

You're missing the fact that he's explaining the science to a group of Division 1 Athletes. So it comes off as very simplistic. But the idea behind what he's saying is solid. Each athlete needs to know himself and learn how he play best.
