BIG Game 16: Gophers host Ohio State, Feb 18th

Gophers +15 on the glass, and + 11 in second chance points. McGuff needs to re-think his roster design. This is the 5th year in a row that OSU has been bad or worse on the glass. Perimeter athleticism is great, but some nights you need to rebound.

I am a Minnesota optimist…always. Yet I was so frustrated at the beginning of the season. After that Washington loss. 3-4 in the conference. I was ready to just be .500 in the conference and hopefully make the tournament. I thought Braun would transfer after the season. Everything has changed now! This is so fun. Peaking at the perfect time! I do still wish we had that Maryland game. (Mostly because a Minnesota kid was part of the comeback) However I try and remind myself that game maybe affects them now and playing with a chip. I want to host so bad. That would really spark NIL, and portal interest. What a fun night!

On the official Ohio State team page, each of their Bio's mention their siblings. All different siblings and no mention that they are related or sisters. Please pass along the link that you are seeing that indicates that they are sisters. Thanks. BTW, this reply is directed at the person insisting the Cambridge girls are sisters.
I could certainly be wrong, but I googled "Are Kennedy and Jaloni Chambers sisters and there are at least a dozen sources that say they are sisters...AI, Wikipedia, and Columbus Dispatch (a reputable hometown newspaper). Apparently, Kennedy is Jaloni's older sister. All these sources could be wrong, but probably not. Doesn't matter to me, as long as they were both on the losing end against our Gophers.

I have a friend who coaches a D-2 womens team. His philosophy almost every year from Nov. through about the final 2 weeks of the season is "We are a work in progress!". We probably won't be the same team in Jan, that we are in Dec. Won't be the same team in Feb. that we are in Jan. He always tells me we are constantly learning and adjusting with the idea that we will be the team we are in early March. He's almost always right.

A couple of things: Amaya has become such a solid player--good defender, great rebounder, good FT shooter, ability to get to the basket, smooth jump shot inside the arc, knows her limitations outside the arc. Second, Hart has become a really solid post. Earlier in the season, I was sometimes critical of her, maybe because I am always looking for a Lauren Betts or a Janel McCarville in a post player. But Hart has worked really hard to become a good player and she's now a matchup problem for most Gopher opponents.

They are sisters. This confirm it right here.

If Minnesota extends the winning streak to 10 games by beating #18 Michigan State, Gophers then would.project to a #4 seed in NCAA Tournament

And around #15 in AP poll.

Plus they recently beat #10 Iowa.

Some big.other conference.games this weekend.

Plus Big Ten Tournament still. Gophers would have a double bye.

Another big game coming up.

Their bios on the Ohio State women's basketball site doesn't mention they are siblings. However, if you google the question are they sisters....the answer comes back yes they are.

And, the weather definitely kept lots of fans away. I live at 394 & 100....take city streets to the Barn. Normal 25 drive took one hour 15 minutes today...grid lock all the way until I got near Target Center. And , was very slippery coming in and out of Barn. Ready for Sunday with just cold....and no more snow.

The Ohio State guy I talked to at the game said they are sisters. He said Kennedy, the other, transferred from Kentucky.

This team has grown so much in the last 2 months. Playing like a team. Everyone dialed in to their roles. And most importantly keeping their composure and closing out games. Dawn has done a great job recognizing where they needed to improve and getting the players there in relatively short order. I don't think they fear any team right now. Bring on UCLA in the BIG title game.
That's Dawn and her staff's history. No surprise here.

That motion offense is advanced. Probably takes time. Gel when it counts, like winning the WBIT last season.

Someone else maybe 6 weeks ago said you have to have the top players in the conference to run that system and Gophers will never have that. I agreed. I was wrong. They have IT.

I feel like the team is winning because of me; we haven’t lost since I started the game threads :)
I’ll have Michigan State up in the morning!

Stay safe and warm my gopher fans!
Do I recall that you said earlier in the year that you were not a Coach P fan? Just teasing, but have you changed your opinion yet?😁

This coaching staff has done this before. Don't be so surprised.

Well, after digging around more, the OSU roster bios aren't the most accurate in the world. Looked up Devan Cambridge and found he now plays for UCF (not TX Tech) and lists Jaloni and Kennedy as sisters. I stand corrected.

The whole team locked down and played well but man the 2 senior starters Hart and Battle what great games. It’s so fun to watch this team. Hoping to be at the barn on Sunday, if there is no weather issues. It’s a long drive but will be worth it to see them win their 10th straight.
Glad you mentioned seniors. It will be senior day.

Earlier in conference play, many of us, me included, were critical of the Gophers offense. The progress this team has made on the offensive end is remarkable. Yes, they'll still have stretches where they are missing shots (including some easy shots) but now they're almost always getting good shots. Reasons for the improvement: Better spacing, knowing when and how to use their post players, a healthy Mara, post players knowing when to pass the ball out, less dribbling/more passing, complete unselfishness, etc. I'll admit that I wasn't sure this group would ever get to this point offensively, but this team's offense is no longer its Achilles heel. That gives me hope for post-season play.

I think I've seen this before.
