BIG Game 14: Gophers host Nebraska, Thursday @7PM

And, Shimmy helped Amaya Battle with her free throw shooting while here. Got her to focus at the line by singing a little song in her head while getting ready to shoot.

Some interesting NET talk:
Nebraska dropped to #26, so the win for the Gophers was a quad 2. We need to become fans of Nebraska the rest of the way so they can get back into the top 25 which would then give us another quad 1 win. If Nebraska can beat Iowa on Monday that should do it.
Need to continue to cheer for USC (NET 22)

Beat Wisconsin and we are sitting really good. If we lose that game, puts more pressure on the remaining three. I like our match up with Ohio State (if we take care of the ball)

I would have thought that since they were NET 25 at game time that they were Quad 1

Gophers WAB is up to #19 this morning. My guess is that WAB will be more predictive of NCAA seeding than NET.

Nebraska in danger of not making the NCAA tourney? 4 remaining regular season games...road games at Iowa, Washington, and Oregon; home game vs. Rutgers to end the season. Gopher fans will be rooting for the Huskers at Iowa, as the Gophers are trying to catch Iowa in the standings and get double bye in conference tournament.

FWIW Nebraska plays Iowa in Lincoln. Iowa is discombobulated on offense after recent injury. Nebraska with a very good chance to win.

My bad! Thanks for pointing out that this game is in Lincoln. That might make a big difference. Iowa also has Michigan on their remaining schedule...a home game for Iowa.

The notion that Shimmy is biased is silly. She coached Braun, Battle, and Holloway. IMO, she tends to talk too much, but she's not biased. (We heard similar comments about Lisa Bluder last week.) If you don't like the color commentary, you can always mute the broadcast or use the Gopher radio broadcast to accompany the video cast. My 2 cents.
For many fans all over the country, not just Gopher fans, if the announcer isn't biased toward my team (which I will hear as very fair and even-handed commentary) they are completely biased toward the other team.

I agree with the above about Shimmy. Maybe not a great commentator, but I've never thought she was biased. I thought she was pretty complimentary about our Gophers last night, but, as she should, also pointed out Nebraska highlights.

I'm still shocked and surprised that a TV commentators opinions and observations bothers so many people so much. I'm also convinced that many (maybe not all) of the people who complain about it the most, don't have nearly the sports knowledge or insight that most of these commentators have. After all, most of them are former players or coaches who actually spend a lot of time talking to coaches/players they'll be covering that night and actually observe practices and shoot-arounds, either on gameday or the day before, to see what the coaches are actually telling their players.

Negative. Quad 1, 2, etc wins/losses can fluctuate, so you need to pay attention to how a team does after you play them.

Marquette for example. No clue what their NET was when we played but they're 65 currently, so a Quad 3 win. Not sure how realistic it is but if they go on a run and get up to 55 then that would be another Quad 2 win for the Gophers.

The first round of the NCAA Tournament is March 19-20, Second round March 21-22. The MSHSL Girls Tournament is March 11-14 at Williams Arena. The MSHSL Boys Tournament is March 24-28 at Williams Arena but March 24 games are at Target Center. So they scheduled the HS Tournaments around the possibility of our Gophers hosting the first two rounds.

Selection Sunday is March 15th.
But, when is the big basketball tournament blizzard?

Many fans seem to prefer someone in the Sid Hartman mold. A homer to the end.

When I try to watch tv and listen to the radio, they’re out of sync. The call is ahead of the video.
I listen to the radio broadcast on my phone through the gopher website game day page. I pause it a little bit at a time till the audio is pretty close to the video. Not perfect, but better than listening to some announcers, especially on BTN+.

Yes. Amaya singing a song in her head while getting ready. That sounds just about right for Shimmy Miller and that staff. That's why they are not coaching anymore. They will need their friends to hire them. Carly Dudonis was the real coach and that's why she has a HC job. Shimmy got that broadcast job because of her spouse like someone had mentioned.

Mallory Heyer leaving..

Someone had wondered about the last team scrimmage before the season started. Was Heyer not the starter? Did that compell Heyer to go where she wasn't going to be the 6th (wo)man? It would appear coach was right that McKinney beat Heyer out.

Although I wish Heyer was here. NIL and grad school at her new school were the reasons, I was told.

I thought Bluder was fine actually but I thought Shimmy was way over the top on the side of Nebraska. I recorded the game so I went back after reading your comments and watched it again today, sorry, she was just as bad as I originally thought..
