BIG Game 12: Gophers @ Iowa, Feb 5th!

what a WIN... started to get Maryland flashbacks right at the end when Tori missed those three fts.. other then the 4th quarter, we controlled that whole game..

5 in double figures, ALMOST had all 7 in double figures..

what a game by GG she can play inside and outside

Amaya after a slow start finished with a career high 14 rebounds and another double double..

Mara a quite second half but that 3 she BANKED IN turned out to be HUGE!

Tonga and Sophie went for 18 points between the two and 16 rebounds

Tori a very solid game

MAN WHAT A WIN.. SKI U MAH!

Having an experienced coach makes all the difference. This is a great win for the Gopher ladies.
Hopefully Mark Coyle has learned his lesson. Hiring a local MN unqualified coach (Whalen) was a moronic decision. Coach P has turned the ship around quickly. 5 years ago this team was losing by 40pts to Iowa and we were a laugh show in the BIG. Great win and so happy for the program.

Last time we won there, Carly Wagner was on the team. Great team win. Hope we don't have to meet them in the BIG tournament.

We might take Washington's place in Top 25 . Also, barring a collapse, looks like 'the bubble' might be in our rearview mirror.

What a well executed basketball game by the Lady Gophers. Efficient, clean, basketball. Although, that last quarter reminded me of the Men's game against MSU and I was praying against another Maryland collapse. But, this time the Ladies held their composure and got a great win at Iowa City.
That was fun.

91 points on the road vs. Iowa?

Looks like Coach P's offense isn't quite as bad as some have made it out to be.....;););)
Oh, I can be the first to admit I was one of the posters saying the offense wasn't good. I have no problem eating my words lol - They have improved over the last five games.
Now are we going to shoot 71% from three next game? Iol I sure hope so, but last night everything was falling.
Go Gophers!

I was also critical of the Gopher offense. Last night they proved me wrong. I hope they can keep playing this way. Big win on the road even if Iowa turns out to be overated. This can be a spring board win let's take the next step and close the season on a high note.

The offense is visibly better than 8-10 games ago. The energy off the screens enabled both open shots and ability to penetrate off the dribble. Quickly passing from the paint back out to the perimeter was great. An 'quickly' is the key. It also keeps opposing defenses honest, doesn't let them slack or take plays off. This is really what we've needed to compliment the energy on our defense. This a real improvement and wonderful to see. What some of us have been hoping for. They keep it up and this team has the potential to create some havoc in the BIG10 and in March.

I mentioned this earlier in the year but earlier in the season the gophers would have 2 of their starters play great and then 2 would have some of the worst games they have ever played.

Lately they are all playing good together. This last month Battle has been looking for her shot more and that has been beneficial. Mara Braun is playing such winning basketball right now, she went off in the first half but she forced nothing in the second half, she has been so good lately and good for her. My last person Tonga, I didn’t think she was a power 4 player, in all honestly I hated watching her play, credit to her she is coming into her own and she is playing great basketball, solid under the radar add from Dawn. (Shoutout GG and McKinney just consistently good/great all year)

Was a great game and fun to watch! First 3 quarters this team looked the most confident I have seen in a long time. Probably helped everything they were shooting seem to be pretty much falling, especially from 3PT line(71%). It also seems as if Coach P has looked to Niko for some offense help as I seen some similarities in offense concepts last night in the way some shots were created and cuts and screens made. Iowa is a tough team and tough place to play. They are able to turn scores quickly and get their crowd going and score fast.

Little concerning after Mara hit the wild bank 3 at the 2:33 mark in 4th quarter to go up 16 that we still allowed Iowa to get a close as they did at the end. Maryland game still haunts. At least we used our time outs which may have been the difference. Seems like we were holding on in the 4th after playing with confidence first 3 quarters. Got the W in Iowa which counts! Great to see a much needed quality W! Rah!

I thought that I remembered reading shortly after Coach P was hired that she was known for developing bigs. It would seem that both Hart and especially Tonga have improved their play.

I too will admit I was questioning their offense earlier in the year. Making shots cures a lot. We seem to be running some different stuff; we got a couple of backdoor cuts for layups and and some down picks for GG to come off of for shots. Great job offense, 91 points on the road against the #10 team, I'll take that any day of the week.
One more thing, when Coach P was trying to get McKinney to smile after she missed a couple of free throws at the end, good coaching. Hopefully it will help in games down the road.
