One of the reason Beilema left Wisconsin was because they didn't pay the assistants enough to keep from losing them. He just lost another one admittedly to a promotion but he's still losing them.

Arkansas defensive line coach Charlie Partridge has agreed to become Florida Atlantic's coach, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

The contract is expected to be finalized on Sunday, a source said.

Partridge replaces Carl Pelini, who resigned Oct. 30. FAU athletic director Pat Chun said Pelini admitted to using "illegal drugs," which was in violation of their contracts. Pelini later denied using illegal drugs.

The school's interim president later wrote a letter to Pelini, obtained by ESPN, that said Pelini's employment was terminated because he failed to report the conduct of a staff member. Chun also said defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis admitted to using drugs.

Arkansas was paying Partridge 350k, a defensive line coach making more than either of our coordinators.

Guy got an FBS job offer as a position coach. Of course he takes it.

You forget the biggest factor: Beilema loses assistants because he's a smug assh*le and treats people like crap.

Pay attention Norwood and up Claey's pay!

Yeah, Claeys is making a name for himself. Soon (maybe now), he'll be a hot name for SEC type jobs and I don't think we can compete with that kind of money. I hope that I'm wrong.

He was associate head coach for three Rose Bowl teams I believe.

Tracy makes more than quite a few head coaches in the MAC I believe.

I could be wrong (on this and many other things).

Partridge was the most important assistant on the staff because his reputation is as perhaps the best, most well connected recruiter of the state of Florida in college football. It's kind of like FAU hiring Tim Brewster.

I'm not sure why you responded to me. I understand all that.

Not directed at you, but since you touched on salary I just wanted to clarify for people who don't get it, that the reason he earned so much money as a position coach is that he's their recruiting hammer.

And because Arkansas is giving out money like it's candy. The OP alluded to Bielema still losing assistants, but it's certainly not through a lack of funding on Arkansas' part. You aren't going to have many position coaches who turn down FBS head coaching opportunities, even the best paid ones.

Bielema had a point about his staff being better paid at Arkansas. The real question is if Arkansas will ever get their money's worth.

My point was that the problems Bielema had in keeping staff at Wisconsin goes beyond money.

Except this has absolutely nothing to do with Bielema. If Jay Sawvel got a job offer to be the head coach at FAU you think he wouldn't take it in a heartbeat? And that Coach Kill wouldn't be happy as hell for him? That's a huge job promotion.

I strongly dislike Bielema and am glad to take shots at him any chance I can. I think he'll fail at Arkansas. But this doesn't really make sense.

Hiring a Defensive Line Coach, who should to be a Defensive Coordinator, is setting yourself up for turmoil. It's speaks to his shortcomings on the people side of the business.

What? You are really, really reaching here. Let it go.

FAU hired a position coach to be their head coach? And not even an NFL position coach, but a college position coach? What are they thinking? Hiring position coaches to be head coaches is guaranteed to fail 100% of the time!

I wonder if he told them "It's not the X's and O's, it's the Johnny's and Joe's"?

It's not the same situation. Partridge had been Co-Defensive Coordinator at Wisconsin. That's my problem with Bielema is, if you say your moving because your tired of losing assistants, then demote one of the assistants that you take with you, either your lying or your a poor manager of people.

Did someone hold a gun to Partridge's head and make him take the job at Arkansas?

I'm sure that it was a case of dollars but if that's what it is you need to expect staff turnover. It'll be interesting to see what kind of turnover Bielema has in his staff.

Urban Meyer would disagree with you.

On the flipside since coaches usually want their own staff, it was either take the demotion or start printing resume's where you'll get a job that probably pays less than what Bielema's offering.
