Because there are like 7 coaches in all of FBS with 12+ years at their current school
Brett beilema already has 4

Just the way the world is it is more likely than not that any coach won’t go 10 years at one school these days.

Last time he was in the same system for 10 years it was 3rd-12th grade

Fair. In case of Random Coach A I'd agree.

But Bert is 55. He already flopped in a "bigger" job. So he's unlikely to move on to greener pastures. And Illinois has also had enough bad years that they're likely to fire him at this point unless it really turns hard.

So unless he retires before age 62 or Ozempic turns out to be lethal, I think he's likely to still be there.

He’s probably a candidate for the Iowa job
He probably is a candidate for some others as well:
He’s already shown to be a mover


I am sure some big ten coaches will be the same in 2031, but individually I am not sure any would surprise me leaving nor would I bet on them being there
 

I hope he doesn't go to Iowa and another conference snatches him up. Arkansas was a tough job.

I don’t care if he goes to Iowa. He’s done a nice job at Illinois so far, but I still think he’s a bit overrated. If he can put together a sustainable product at Illinois he could win me over.
 

Big Ten suits him well. He's comfortable, and has Illinois trending somewhat upward. I would think there's not a lot of pressure on him there as long as his record is above average.
 





We only play Illinois once in the next 4 years.

I like playing Illinois, but it's kind of disappearing for a while.

I'm kind of blah about this.

Yeah....the total years on a coaches contract really don't mean that much outside of what it does to buyouts and what not. Most coaches will be fired or move on before their contract ever gets close to expiring.
 

I think a good number of programs are going to keep coaches longer in the new era of college football. Stability is going to be key. (This is what I want to believe)

Crass, but I thought you were going to say he would not live six more years.

I dunno, I think there’s something to be said for hiring a coach from a talented lower level school and having him bring players with him that can be instant upgrades and contributors for quick results. Of course I’m sure we can find examples of both methods working out.
 

Misread the headline and I saw that he'll be "round" for another 6 years, and I was like, duh!

How many are truly upgrades? Yes Indiana brought some JMU players but many key players were transfers from other schools and not JMU. We'll see what year #2 looks like.

Deion was a bit different because he got a 5* and his kids to go to Jacksonville State.

When is the last time a B1G football or men's basketball coach went directly from one B1G school to another? I can't recall a single case in the last 30 years. It will probably happen sometime in the next decade now that we have 18-20 team conferences, but I don't see it being Beilema.
