Best Rivalry Trophy in the BIG per the Athletic.

I'm with the 2nd guy. I prefer Floyd, then the Axe, but the Jug has the most storied history.

Pretty cool that what many of us consider our 3rd best rivalry trophy is others' best trophy in the conference or even nation.

These rivalry/trophy games are one of the reasons why I managed to become a diehard fan despite latching on during the pretty abysmal mid to late 00s. Not to say that every game isn't important and exciting.....but the rivalries are their own separate "championships" each year. NFL rivalries don't even come close to same feeling. So from that standpoint.....Gophers fans are uniquely spoiled.

They obviously forgot the Victory Bell.

The Jug has the best history IMO but Michigan isn't as much of a rival as the other two. I think my favorite is Floyd of Rosedale.

While the rivalry itself (Indiana-Michigan St) doesn't garner much attention, the Old Brass Spittoon deserves mention as a great trophy.

Every trophy is a weapon if try hard enough.
$5 bits of broken chair has to climb the list then. You can jam one of the legs in an eye-socket*...

*BTW I for those too young to know, there was a fable about a poster/ "Gopher fan" that got into a brawl at a Madison restaurant. IIRC that was part of the legend of the curse of the Axe/ slab of bacon. The true "curse" had to do with a stein being stolen from a Wisconsin restaurant...

What's the lesson? Don't eat at Wisconsin restaurants... ;):ROFLMAO:

$5 bits of broken chair trophy is the greatest trophy of them all. Find me a better back story.

Yes, this! And, it started with Goldy Gopher and Faux Pelini. 😁

I very much relate to this!! Well said my friend!

The only downside of the Jug is we need to win the next 50+ games to get to .500 in the series. So, I like the Pig and the Axe equally.

I love the $5BoBC so much because of the back story. Completely organic, driven by the beef between Faux Pelini and Goldy and social media. Perfect! And you would be hard pressed to find a back story of any kind that past few decades. All of the recent trophy games are manufactured like the Bell to signify the first B10 game PSU played, et el.

However, the story behind The Jug, and the lack of trust to provide clean water, and the most important fact that it is the origin of trophy games can not be understated.

The Jug is the GOAT.

STP's memory is a little cloudy this morning. It was in NE Mpls where the infamous eye socket event took place.

Found this historic thread that lays out the legends from the earlier GH days. Oh, and Loon here is our Walrus of today.

Yes, for the newbies here's some more of what all GHers should know about our storied past...

Ski U Mah!

Thanks to DarrenTheGreek in the historic thread, here's the Stein story...

A true GH classic to review prior to taking on the Knights...

If you know about the untimely death of Kelly Leeks, the Curse of the Stein, and China Gopher’s assailant taking a chair leg to the eye socket, you’ve been around this board for a loooong time, lol.

You are correct. For some reason, I though it "happened" in Madison or somewhere BADger country.
