Besides the Gophers who do you cheer for?

Having relatives in Michigan who are University of Michigan fans, I tend to tune in to watch Michigan basketball. It started with Glen Rice and they have been my second team to cheer on.

Since this season may be terribly difficult for us Gopher fans, what team (or teams) do you turn to for enjoyment?

(I'm pretty sure I know who @RockChalk cheers for. I have family who are KU alum so I can respect KU.)

Cheer for Norhwestern, where a son of ours went to undergrad & grad school.

Lived in Michigan for 7 years... I'll watch MSU and UMich

I cheer outside of the B1G Conference. Nova, Wake Forest, UConn, Iowa State, mostly.

I spent a few years in the KC area during the Royals WS runs so a lot of Jayhawks basketball also MSU-Mankato for some reason.🙂

I have 4 others (in order):

St. Thomas (Alma mater)

Michigan State (father’s Alma mater)

Kansas (wife’s favorite team)

Maine (brother lives there, and I got to know former Black Bears coach Dr. John Giannini a little bit)

Oklahoma. I guess they got me during the Billy Tubbs era. That was fun. Since then it's not that much better than the Gophers.

UMD because I grew up on the range and Mich Tech because I went to school there.

Iowa State. Did my doctoral work there. Always cheer for them unless they’re playing the Gophers. The Cyclones get most of my attention these days, as the actually have a coach that knows what he’s doing.

I used to cheer for Georgetown years ago. For college sports (and for me that's just football and basketball), my overall interests really wanes when the Gophers are not competitive. I'll watch big games and the tournament, but if I have a rooting interest it is mostly for an upset.

Thank you for that. Our daughter is a KU grad, graduated during covid.

Utah, Colorado St. and San Diego State

All MN guys coaching those squads. Supporting MN.
Same here, I find myself rooting Monson and Pitino as well. Mom went to Loyola, brother went to Indiana. My dad went to Dartmouth, my grandpa went to the Naval Academy and both have law degrees from Georgetown so I have a soft spot for those schools.

Buncha rockefellers up in here!

As a kid, I really liked Michigan (Fab 5) and UNLV (Running Rebs), but now it's mostly just the Gophers. I am somewhat interested in Pitt and UT.

Don't really root for the other Big Ten teams until they get into the tournament. Like to watch Big Ten hoops, with-out really rooting for one team over the other. Seems to give me a nice, unbiased view of the actual game, which is actually pretty enjoyable. I tend to root for the local Division 2 team in my town, and also Minn.-Mankato, since I went to school there. As far as D-1 teams, probably U of Wyoming, since I lived there for several years and Montana, which has a couple of guys who formerly coached in Chico, on their staff.

On the womens side, same D-2 teams and also pretty much any team coached by Lynne Roberts, who just moved from Utah to the WNBA. She was also a very successful and popular ex-Chico coach.
