Well, the Gophers hired the mid-major Dan Monson a number of years ago, and he was no PR wiz. In fact, I think he was taken aback at what a major-conference job all entailed. He's another guy who could have done himself a few favors by having a personality.
So, your argument is that Monson wasn't ready because he was at some mid-major job before he came here?

1997–98Gonzaga24–1010–41stNIT Second Round
1998–99Gonzaga28–712–21stNCAA Elite Eight
Gonzaga:52–17 (.754)22–6 (.786)

After winning 75% of his games in 2 seasons at Gonzaga and going to the Elite 8, he accepts the job at MN following one of the worst scandals in Gopher history. Now, I don't believe that Monson is an elite coach, but his hands were tied when he came here with scholarship punishments, post season bans. I'm just not sure that is a good example of a failure.

Why did you post his win-loss record? My post was about public relations. Did you maybe read through it too quickly?

Are we just running this back? Has anyone heard anything about potential staff changes?

Rumor has it they are currently looking into time travel to go back and hire the coach who has his team from the Mountain West in the Elite 8 and who had a provision specifically in his contract to come here should we come calling.

If anyone is looking for me, I'll be out in the garage dropping heavy objects on my bare feet.

The major issue is we never came calling. It wasn’t a search, it was a damn coronation, and we ended up with the frog instead of the prince.

Hopefully, this staff can recruit, develop and teach the game. So far, I'm not convinced of the later two.
Yes these are definitely the bigger concerns in my opinion as well. Much more to coaching than just recruiting. Need to actually create a program. Culture.

I'm begining to think I was giving Ben's recruiting prowess a little to much respect......

I even ate crow after 6 weeks into his first season..... What a waste of a meal that was.....

As a Gopher fan, we've all learned it's an acquired taste. One of those foods that comforts us more from nostalgia than taste.

No Sir. Not yet.
Must admit, the headline of the thread that early in the season seemed too harsh and unfair. Getting the sinking feeling that it might have been right on. Program in a power conference; there are opportunities for playing time; and we seem to be unable to close the deal on some much needed guards?

Right. Trying to give Ben as much leeway as possible but this is a spot he just can't miss on. I'd imagine he understands that but if we can't hit on guys at the Pride/Brown level, not going to be easy to have on-court success.
