Beer at TCF...1st the Senate ok's, Now the House ok's.

Bottom line is that this is about adding more revenue. I love the idea of adding more money to the U. If you don't like the beer garden, then you don't have to go the beer garden. Simple solution!

Just the mere thought there is a beer garden for regular folks somewhere in the Gophers Stadium drives some Holers crazy even though they will never have to go in it, and maybe never even see it.

Some people really flip out over the University making its own alcohol policies.

Where?

The question I want answered is where will the beer garden be? We are currently considering moving our seats from seat backs to the lower end of the stadium on the open end where there is plenty of room behind the seats. However, if they are going to stick a beer garden there I wouldn't want to move down there. Anyone know?

I know 2008 was a long time ago, but you may recall that beer was sold during gopher football games for 28 years. Were there marauding gangs of drunks terrorizing the children back then? I have to admit that excessive consumption of alcohol maybe isn't the best idea in an emotionally charged environment, but it's not like we're a bunch of English soccer hooligans. When people get out of hand, as any where, they will be escorted out of the stadium.

This. And kegs, octobongs, etc. were allowed in force in the parking lots.

In the 12 years I had Gopher season football tickets in the Dome I saw exactly ONE out of control drunk. He was a Badger. Otherwise, my section of the Dome (in the lower bowl) for the last 72 Gopher games was essentially drunk free for as far as I could see (and hear) in all directions as well as all the times I visited the concession stands and restrooms.

My biggest issue with the whole beer thing is it should be the U's decision. I am ok if they only offer it in suites. I'm ok if they offer it in a beer garden. I think they're crazy if they offer it in the general seating on game days, but if that's their decision, so be it. As long as the Regents are the ones making the decision.

What is everyone's fear of alcohol??? As long as you have to show an ID before purchasing, it is everyone's right to get as drunk as they want to as long as they don't drive home. Let the party begin!

I'm not sure if that's what's been going on, however. The "U" has always wanted to sell alcohol in the premium areas. The legislature has basically said they can't follow that line of thinking unless they make it available, in some form, to the general public. This does not sound to me like the university making it's own alcohol policies, but rather the legislature forcing the "U" to choose whether they want an all-or-nothing policy. And that, is not allowing the "U" to make their own policy.

If they have booze at the games, I guess they have booze at the games. I'm not in favor of it in the general seating area, but have no problems with it being in the premium areas, as people pay more for those seats. Frankly, if it's available anywhere in the general seating area, even in a beer garden, it negates some of the positives of it being in the premium seating. Remember that the reason the "U" wants it is for the ability to charge more for said premium seats...if it's available to everyone, it's no longer a perk.

Just my two cents...

Ok, so it's a Beer Garden and you obviously cant bring it back to your seat - so who really cares if we have it or not.
