Duke Anyanwu will definitely redshirt. You don't go to camp, you aren't on the roster (I believe)...

"Kill said sophomore offensive tackle Jimmy Gjere (concussion) and junior linebacker Brendan Beal (knee) are expected to be fully healthy when fall camp opens. But freshman wide receiver Duke Anyanwu (knee) will have to sit out at camp."

This is great news for Gjere and Beal. If Gjere was able to lock down the starting spot as a RFr last year, chances are he's starting for us 8/30. As for Beal, it would be great if he could see the field and get some situational snaps, especially for short-yardage running downs.

Great news about Beal. I hadn't really even thought of the possibility that he would be playing much this season, but he would definitely be a key addition. MLB is one of our weakest spots and having him to play run downs (as JG pointed out) would be huge for this team.

It's too bad about Duke but I don't think there was ever much of a chance that he wasn't going to RS. The kid is only 17 and will be until the end of September. He's really young for his grade. With that in mind, I'm really surprised to see them call him a WR. I am curious if that was Fuller's assumption or if that is where he was slotted by the staff. I only say that because he is only 17 and he is 6'4" 230 lbs. I know he played a lot of WR in HS, but I think a kid like Duke will either end up at TE, DE, or possibly LB.

This is great news, on every front. The idea the Beal is sound enough to be on the field is amazing. The academic progress is incredible, and having Gjere in the mix is all you can ask. I think Beal could be the missing link. How much he can contribute is the question. And Redshirting Duke and other freshman is the key to the program.

Now don't tear your ACL on the last practice of fall camp again, Brandon ;)

I just hope Beal can stay healthy. That kid needs a good break.

It does kinda seem that way, with all those years in FL and this is his third year here, right? Seems like I've been rooting for him to get healthy for that long - and will be delighted if he finally gets to play.

I hope people appreciate that academic progress from a football standpoint. Seniors win games, and academic casualties cause teams to be perpetually young. If they can keep this up, it will pay off.
