BCS National Title Game Thread: FSU vs Auburn

Did anyone else see Mason from Auburn spike the ball on his TD? If you're going to call a unsportsmanlike penalty for taunting at a critical time, why not there? Glad it didn't matter. This wasn't the best performance for the BT refs. Missed a big horse collar at the end as well.

Fun game to watch and glad Florida St. won. Of the three big Florida schools, they are the school I dislike the least.

This is the first only game of the five BCS bowls/games that the favored team won. Michigan St., Clemson, Central Florida, and Oklahoma were all underdogs.

By the way, could Musburger's call on the game winning TD be less exciting. He called it like it was a TD in a game featuring Florida St. and Behune-Cookman.

That's because it doesn't follow their SEC storyline. ESPN is a key cog in the SEC hype machine.

I'm just happy to see that the SEC lost both of their BCS Bowl games.

+1. They were marking bad spots constantly throughout the night, and I said the same thing after Mason spiked the ball. The horse collar was missed, and the facemask in the 1st half. Winston's head almost got ripped off.

The Big Ten should be very embarrassed for the display their referees put on.

Not to start another one of these discussions again, but was Auburn really doing anything too crazy tonight? It looked like they just ran a lot of read option most of the night, the same thing they've run all season. It's nice to have one of the best running backs in the country and one of the best athletic QBs in the country running your offense.

No doubt Limegrover needs to get more creative. I just think play callers look better when you have great players and they're executing like they're supposed to.

The roots of Malzahn's philosophy lie in the book "The Delaware Wing-T". This article is a great read about it: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/10236856/gus-malzahn-offensive-evolution

I was yelling, immediately, about the TD ending with an emphatic SPIKE. No flag. And, as also previously mentioned... since the beginning of the horsecollar rule, the one missed on FSU's big play on their final drive was as blatant as you'll ever see. No call. Both calls go against FSU and they overcame.

I did notice this. I was similarly puzzled by Musburger's commentary as the game was ending. He said something along the lines of (not verbatim) "this was still a great year in the SEC that people will never forget". It seemed out of place as normally that is a good time to congratulate the national champions on their season.

Perhaps my BSec and BSPN meters are a bit overly sensitive, however, outside of the Auburn-Alabama game (which was admittedly pretty unforgettable), was this really a great season for the SEC? They lost their two most important bowls. There's nothing wrong with congratulating the loser (Auburn) on a good season, but why turn it into a conference thing? Strange.

Didn't they have the best bowl record again?
