Forgive me if this has been thoroughly discussed.
A: We were at the fair yesterday and stopped by the U site and asked questions about student tickets. We were told online sales, one ticket only.
Q: Anyone know if they will be checking ID's at all the games? Will it be possible for a non-student to use a student's ticket?
This will not help cupcake attendance.

I hope you will need a student ID. It's a U of M student section, not a St. Thomas student section.

The students better show up if they are checking IDs, it's the best show in town in my opinion. Unfortunately not getting student tickets this year for $100 does not make it the best deal in town for me anymore. I'll finally have to bite the bullet and pony up $600 for upper deck seats.

I'm sure they'll be checking IDs at the gate. The question becomes, how thoroughly? For those who need to dodge the system, I would use how they treat football student tickets as a gauge. I don't doubt there will be post on the fb board on either Saturday or Sunday that are either celebrating the fact that the poster, who is no longer a student, gain admittance with his/her student ticket or complaining because the poster was denied entry.

I know the numbers (10,000 v. 2,000) are drastically different, but as I and anyone else who has been near the front of the line at a Gopher hoops game in the past few years can tell you, the rush of people trying to get in will make it difficult on security to enforce this strictly.

if they are checking i.d's they are going to need a MAJOR overhaul on how students get into the game, there is no way they could check id's with the current system

Response from the U...

As of right now, one of my contacts at the U said basketball will run the exact same as football students tickets will be run this year. If she hears anything else, she'll keep me posted to keep you posted.

I think the bottom line here is, if you're not a current student, I'd hold off on getting a student ticket for now. As PLG said, I'm sure there will be detailed reports about how they check ID's from the football games.

Q: Are the student section tickets this year punch card types?

I'm a student but I don't have the time/money to buy season tickets and I'd like to split tickets with some other students and the punch cards are a big pain.

Student tickets are the punch style, but they are being scanned instead. ID's are also checked this year, and as far as I can tell the name on the ticket does not have to match the name on the U card.

So they scan them then punch them?
Oh well, guess I have to hope they sell some individual tickets ( I won't hold my breath).

Student section is basically sold out, no single tickets AFAIK.

You can always go to hockey, they have single tickets

They didn't check my ID at the last game, don't worry though, I'm a student :)

They checked my ID for the Moorhead game, but not the Duluth game. But it could change for the first "real" game tomorrow night.

this is straight bull*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#, if you get your student tickets late you get the individual tickets (like football) If you got your tickets not too late they gave you the punch card. The single tickets are so much better. You can sell one if you are going to miss the game, and you don't have to worry about losing your punch card.

Personally, I have always hated the punch card. It is my mission in life to never let one of my tickets go unused (or a friend's ticket). The punch card makes things very difficult, as you have to trust your entire season tickets to someone, and have to drop it off, and pick it back up. If they just crack down on checking ID's - I don't see why they can't print off individual tickets to games. That way - ticket to games can be easily sold, but having a UCard will crack down on opposing team's fans.

You're telling me that they're now issuing straight tickets and not punch cards?! I think I might "lose" mine on purpose and get the actual tickets instead. I hate that punch card.

Last year they didn't check ID's at all. This year, I hear they are checking IDs but I am not sure since all the fair-weather freshman flooded in and got tickets, leaving me without one.

P.s. they are still doing punch cards, not single tickets.

So far, I've had my ID checked at both games. It's not as if they're scouring it and asking for a second form of identification to match, but at both exhibitions I was asked to show my U Card as they scanned my ticket.

What I wouldn't give to have individual tickets instead of a punch (or what is now a scan) card.

I got individual tickets and they look just like gameday-sold tickets and I don't even have to walk in the student entrance and they just scan my ticket right at the front door.

I got individual tickets as well. No punch card for me!!!
