he is unquestionably the greatest baseball player of all time.

the argument that he used ped and his stats are invalid does not hold up. he had the best eye of any hitter since joe dimaggio. while sammy sosa and mark mcguire were threatening to set records for strikeouts, bonds was setting records for walks (all time leader). he was a batter first and a home run hitter second. he used a small bat and he choked up. he has two less doubles than cal ripken all time (17 on the list). he would have had 3000 hits if he hadn’t been blackballed (2935). third most in runs scored.

not to mention his 8 gold gloves as well as base running. not only is he the only person in the 400-400 club. he’s the only person in the 500-500 club. people talk about him being a scrawny lead off man in the beginning of his career, but he had power then too. he had the same amount of homers over his first three years of his career as hank aaron did.

he would be a first ballot hofer on his non power stats alone.

then people talk about the morality of using peds. well, they were not against mlb rules at the time. and there were not many people in mlb who weren’t using peds at the time. and let’s face it drugs were rampant during the time of hank aaron (read ball four by jim bounton) and players of all ages were no doubt doing things that were unethical. to say that all the plaques in cooperstown are untarnished is foolish.

The truly tragic aspect of Barry Bonds is this -

he was on track to be a 1st-ballot HOF player, and was clearly one of - if not the best - all-around players of his era - hitting for average, with some power, good defense, running the bases, etc.

But - when he saw other players getting more acclaim for hitting home runs, he decided that he had to hit home runs, too, and so he started juicing.

if he had played his entire career with no drugs, he would not have hit as many HR's. But he would have been a 1st ballot HOF without question - even if he didn't get along with the writers.

Bonds was his own worst enemy. His own insecurities or jealousies - whatever you want to term it - got the better of him.

Oh - as far as the HOF now - NEVER. NEVER. NEVER.

You do not reward people for cheating. Bonds cheated - and he was a surly a-hole who p*ssed off a lot of writers. Put that together, and he will never see the inside of Cooperstown.

Bonds and the others do not deserve the HOF.

Wrong all around.

Shoeless Joe Jackson deserves to get in before Bonds. Jackson was given a lifetime ban, he's dead and so is the Judge Landis, so the ban should be over.

Also he hit .375 in the World Series he was accused of throwing.

He made his bed. Let him lie in it.

Yes, there are inevitably others already in the HOF that used PED's that weren't "caught". I don't really care; life isn't fair.

Rose never. As 10 yr old little leaguers we knew the sign in every baseball clubhouse.

Should William Roger “The Rocket” Clemens be in the HOF as well? That matchup between Clemens and Liriano in 2006 may have been the most entertaining regular season mlb game I’ve ever watched.
