Barrio Boy Chirps In

This will be unpopular, too, but here goes. How can anyone be anything but negative after last Saturday's game? Why blame the media when the game was so awful?

The point here isn't really whether or not folks are negative or not after Saturday's game. The point is that now Barreiro feels so high and mighty about his brilliance that he wants everyone to acknowledge it. I'd rather be proven right and just leave it at that. Barreiro on the other hand apparently wants everyone to note how smart he is, which is itself pathetic.

Because it is only a game. Nothing more. The weather was great, the stadium looked fantastic, the cheerleaders were gorgeous, and Goldy sucked at doing push-ups as usual. And after the game was over we all got to go home and hug our families and start planning our next tailgate.

College football is not real life. It is a diversion. I have been a Gopher fan and season ticket holder for many years but I spend considerably more time worrying about my golf game than how the Gophers play on Saturday. If how the Gophers play keeps you up at night you need to think about getting a life.

The current hysteria in GopherHole about Brewster is absolutely laughable. If only we could channel that concern into doing something about the pathetic state of the U's finances and mediocre academic reputation then then we might really have something.

Gopher fans didn't hire Tim Brewster. The vast majority of us supported Brewster once he was hired because he was our coach and was going to be here for 3-4 years minimum. It wouldn't be in any fans best interest to rip Tim Brewster unless/until it was a realistic option to make a change. If you liked the hire/didn't like the hire, you wanted him to have success.

Given the history of the last 40 years, it would be really easy to proclaim that Brewster will be a failure on day one of his tenure. He was much more likely to be a failure than be a success, so Barreiro hardly went out on a limb there. That type of attitude displayed by Barreiro hurts the program, it doesn't help it.

Great post.

I'll pass, although I can stomach Barriero only in little pieces at a time. I like when he has Billick on the show and when he had Ditka a few years ago.

The Kahn interview summer of 2009 was epic. Kahn absolutely killed Barriero at his own game.

I missed this. What happened?

Right on, which is what makes Barreiro's intentions all the more amusing. What did he expect? That Gopher fans wouldn't give Brewster a chance because he said Brewster wasn't going to get it done from the start? The level of arrogance this type of thinking requires is laughable.

Then it would follow that the team need never win a game so long as the weather is pleasant.

Why isn't replacing Tim Brewster realistic?

Common was the one criticizing the Mauer pick. He had a whole schtick on it and it was rather funny.

Common may have criticized it but Burrito definitely ripped the club for passing on Prior for many years. He continues to criticize Mauer even after 3 batting titles.

Dan is like most of the local sports media. They lay in wait for one of the local sports teams to have a bad game or a bad season because they love to accentuate the negative. If there was some balance and Dan would actually give credit when credit is due, it might be tolerable. I can't listen to him and many of his "celebrate the negative" colleagues any more. If the Gophers would upset USC, Penn State or Ohio State, I'm fairly sure he would do no more than read the score.

burrito = meathead

If Mr. Burrito were the head coach he wouldn't know whether to suck his thumb or pee his pants.
