Barrio Boy Chirps In

I wouldn't click that link to save his life.

There are enough articles written in the past couple of days that have been fair. Any by that I mean they are not making excuses, calling the game what it was, etc. I will not give that blowhard a click on a bet.

Danny B has taken a few shots at us GHers in the last few days. Yesterday on his Sunday show he said that a popular Gopher fan site ripped him and fellow media members for being critical of Brew at the onset of the hire. He said that we should apologize to him for us being critical a few years back. Then he just tweeted this:

"Hilarious the way Gophs Kool-Aid drinking sites have gone pit pull on Brew. Truly courageous, going-out-on-limb stand after Sat."

All I can say is Dan, thanks for your continued readership of GH! For someone that claims to not care what us Gopher fans think, you sure spend a lot of time on this site.

Go Gophers!!

To be honest, I agree with Dan on this. Though I think he's overly negative most of the time by my standards.

Let me guess ... he thought Glen Mason should be fired too?

Just ignore the phony.

All you need to know about Barreiro is that when Mason was the coach here he was the worst coach of all time and worthy of nonstop ridicule. Now that he is not the coach anymore Danny loves to interview with his tongue up Mason's ass. Good thing its on radio and not tv.

Will any Mason supporters show me how to scrub my mind clean. That is a disturbing image and I would not like it being able to come back.

Danny B. actually apolagized for being a negative nancy about Mason.

Granted, considering the current head coach, Mason seems like Bear Bryant.

You need to be TOLD about what happened Saturday? :eek:You need a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#-baguette like Barrerio to enlighten you about Saturday's result?

If you didn't go to the game or watch it you couldn't find out here what happened Saturday? Hell, Maroon and 04 alone have gleefully posted about a thousand times what happened Saturday and what they want to be done. Throw in the trolls and Masonites who are creaming their computers over Saturday's debacle and you STILL want us to click on the 75 year old Spaniard to get HIS take on things?

Gees, well you have to give the KFAN patrol some credit for bull-headedness. They came here for months saying "come on over we DO care about college football" and that didn't work. Now they come here saying "come on over, because we think Brewster should be fired TOO!".

Nope that won't work either. :horse:

Sports, sports, sports; we don't CARE about sports and there's nothing you can do to change us!

What they're really looking for is to be told how smart they are, Barreiro in particular. He thinks of himself as quite brilliant and witty, and as such, he spends a whole lot of time trying to make sure everybody knows it.

So why would anyone ever bother to take note of his opinion ever again?

I haven't listened to him much. But the few times I have listened he's always wrong about everything. He has an amazing track record for being shockingly stupid and incorrect about pretty much anything he ever decides to talk about. But then, I guess that's the appeal of his show to some people.

The Kahn interview summer of 2009 was epic. Kahn absolutely killed Barriero at his own game.

I agree, I don't think he knows jack about sports and his takes are generally total garbage but the Gopher program basically deserves every ounce of savagery he dishes out at this point.

Brewster is total gabage. He's so bad we don't really even know if we have good talent on the team or not. Th AD is garbage and needs to be fired along with Brewster. Those points are 100% valid. I think he was off the mark on Mason during his time as I don't think Mason was near as bad as he was made out to be.

I think "gleeful" and "thousand" are overstating it a bit, but, hey, glad you noticed!!

I think his opinion means absolutely nothing. He's wrong all the time, but it looks like he got this one right, and now he acts like he's some kind of genius.

In 2006 (when Danny B was far more relevant to the local sports scene than he is now), he helped shape public opinion against the last coach. He got his way. What does he have to complain about?

burrito boy is the most negative person in the world. I used to listen to him once in a while but got tired of him thinking he was a better coach than even Tony Dungy. He thinks his constant negativism is funny. No wonder he got canned by the Strib.

Yeah, for the most part he is a total moron when talking about sports. It's clear that he either does not watch much sports or doesn't understand it at all. Every time he starts talking about sports he says something that is so glaringly inaccurate or made up that you know he can't really be paying attention to sports.

Heck, his show is on a "sports" channel and most of it has nothing to do with sports.

This won't be a popular opinion:

His takes in the past have peeved me. He criticized the program mostly out of laziness and the fact that it was pretty easy to do.

I'm glad he's talking about it now. He spent most of yesterday's program talking about the Gophers and at least an hour of today's program. He takes too much glee in Saturday's debacle for my taste, but his opinion on the current state of our team is pretty much spot on. Here's why I like it: He doesn't care about this program a lick; but he sounds pissed about what's going on. More pissed, in fact, than a lot of the regulars on here. Anger at the ineptitude on display on Saturday is really what should be expected. This is not an outlandish, reactionary response. It can be what is necessary to galvanize the movement to really change the direction of this program. If Barreiro's rants have the effect of getting even a few people to take notice and push for some real structural changes to the program, then that's a good thing. Again, Barreiro's interest in the program is a facade, and I recognize that. His motivations are less important to me than what his approach might accomplish, however.

Barring a complete turnaround (which would be a borderline miracle, imo), the program will be in a total shambles at the end of the season. I, and many others, believed that the building of TCF bank stadium was the principal step required to get us back on the college football map. More and more, though, I believe the decision makers (fans, boosters, university administration, etc.) need to take a step back and address all of the issues facing this program. Until the organizational, financial, marketing and student/alumnus outreach components that are the backbone to any successful college football program are addressed, I'm afraid we're not going to see a lot of progress. The stadium, I fear, is just a band aid to cover up the festering wound that is the university's approach to managing its football program.

Yeah, I hoped you'd like that! :D

You're right the "thousand" was hyperbole pure and simple. "Gleeful"? That dramatically understates things. ;)

I'd be much more gleeful if I had been proven wrong. I used to be a big Brewster supporter. But it was screamingly apparent to me a long time ago that he was not going to work out. And you can imagine how much I got shouted down around here for posting that opinion. So when most have now come around to a similar opinion, I probably did take a little glee in that fact - but not the Gophers losing or the program being in near-shambles.

I apologize for being a d1ck to you last year. You were right.

All you need to know about Burrito is that when he had a daily blog and 75% of the comments started being critical of his negative takes, he suddenly had the tech boys at KFAN.COM remove the ability to comment on his articles. He's so thin-skinned it's hilarious.

Bleed was right, he's a complete fraud. He claims to have no time to care what Gopher rubes think but he obviously reads Gopherhole.

How is Mark Prior doing anyway? Isn't this the same guy that spent 4 years in a row criticizing the team for selecting Joe Mauer?

Common was the one criticizing the Mauer pick. He had a whole schtick on it and it was rather funny.

This will be unpopular, too, but here goes. How can anyone be anything but negative after last Saturday's game? Why blame the media when the game was so awful?
