B1G tourney game 1: Gophers versus Washington (3-5-25)

Only 5 total fouls. Should give us latitude to start out aggressive on defense in the 2nd half.
With the exception of Battle, who will need to avoid early fouls.
 

It would be nice if someone would jump some of those screens. You can mess up the timing by doing that , we just let them thru and never step out.
 






Washington shooting 54%. Gophers 38%. 3PT line Washington shooting 45%. Gophers 31%
 





We're not going to outscore WA by 14 in the last 3 minutes. Get the subs in for some minutes.
 







Washington did a good job of packing the paint and Gophers tired out again. That 12 to 0 run was killer. They made a lot of late clock threes. Credit them for making shots. Could not stop Ladine or Sellers. If the threes don't fall Washington, will struggle. It is how they live and identity of that team. They know how to make the extra pass. Sellers took over the game.
 

Looked like we are totally fatigued. Too many minutes for our starters throughout the season due to a short bench.
 

I see that one team above the Gophers in the NET rankings (before today's game) also has no Quad 1 wins: Creighton, who is 0-5 (Gophers are 0-6). But against Quad 2 teams, Creighton is 5-0, and the Gophers are 2-4. It is amazing that our NET rankings is still as high as it is.

Yup, Coach P refused to develop Johnson, Klick, Holloway, Czinano, and Senden into any rotations after Braun and Woodson went down and it was noticed down the stretch. Today Johnson got in first half and played D as well as all others, yes 0-2 (thought fouled on the drive) but yet as another shooter on the floor opened up the floor and Gophers went on a run. Yet 2nd half never went back in and we lost by 14 as we struggled shooting.

Need to find more offense as clearly big 10 good offenses are beating our defense. Washington was able to pick apart our D and get any shot they wanted for most of the game.

Couldn't agree more. No matter how good your defense is it's wasted energy without an effective offense.

Which seems very likely if they don't make the NCAA tournament. The top four seeds of the WBIT are the first four teams out of the tournament.
 

If we're paying attention to the eight or so teams who seem to be behind the Gophers and might be able to grab NCAA spots, it's worth noting that one of them, once-mighty Stanford, just suffered a bad loss to Clemson in their tourney. The Cardinal will definitely miss the tournament for the first time since 1988.

IMO .. those players would fit into D2 or D3 programs. Coach P will hit the portal hard after this season. Coach P is solid. Need to upgrade the talent. Lots here were saying we were going to win the Natty with that freshman four group a few years back. Not so.

I don't remember anyone saying we were going to win a national championship with those four. Most people were just happy that four good local kids were staying home to play for the U. Plus, we hoped it was a sign that future local stars would follow in their footsteps
 

Watched the replay of the game as I was unable to catch it live. Yes there is some improvement but it’s the same familiar theme with Gopher WBB. Late season Swoon, inefficient shooting, first round game leading to a first round exit (yes I know they won last year but the got blown out second game). Very frustrating and disappointing. I didn’t mind subbing in Johnson, Klick and Holloway but seems kinda late in the season, why weren’t they worked into the rotation earlier in the conference season? Likely going to the WBIT where I hope they do well to hopefully prepare them to take the next step for the next season, but honestly getting tired of the same script at the end of every season.

Agreed.

The team isn't athletic and can't shoot. Braun isn't the antidote. She's an inefficient, volume scorer.

Coach P needs to find bigs who can do something other than be big, and she needs an athletic wing who can drive and shoot. Add one of those players to this team, and they make the NCAA Tournament. Add two and they make a run.
