There are some serious duhs in this and a few totals that jump out. This is from 247 for years 24-20.

5 star recruit rankings:
OSU - 13
ORE - 9
USC - 5
PSU - 3
Mich - 2
Wash- 2
MD - 2
NEB - 1
WI - 1
UCLA - 1

This just shows how rare it is to get a 5*! And the numbers kind of follow with the historical records and status of the teams.

4 Star Recruits:

OSU - 88
ORE - 72
PSU - 67
Mich- 65
USC -46
UCLA-30
WI - 29
NEB -28
Wash- 28
Iowa - 21
MSU - 20
MD - 17
PUR - 15
GOPHERS - 14
RUT - 12
IND - 8
NW - 7
ILL - 5

OSU has 91 5 and 4 star players! Oregon has 81!
Mich and PSU have nearly 70. USC has only 51 which kind of surprised me. UCLA and WASH have 31 and 30. Nebby and Whisky are right around 30 and then it drop to around 20 for Iowa and Maryland.

Wow! Reverse those 3 star rankings and aside from a blip or two they are pretty close to the projected B1G finish for the season!

And for those of you wondering, here is Alabama:
5* - 28
4* - 102
3* - 13

So, it’s pretty clear the Gophers are way over their head trying to compete with the Big Boys!

Be happy with winning seasons as NIL probably makes this much worse!

The star system is nice if it translates to the team when they are on the field. Also, do not under estimate 3 stars, Marcus Mariota was a 3 star QB and he won the Heisman.
 

It's amazing how USC has done so little with so much talent. Three double digit win seasons since 2016 with teams that should be minimum ten wins a season.

Seems to be the case since Pete Carroll left. Their talent usually gives them enough for a breakthrough season here or there, happened in 2011 when they had Matt Barkley, but then they fall back down to Earth.

Always wild how those two and RGIII were missed by Mack Brown.

If you're looking for some insight in how 5 Stars turn out, I'd recommend KTO's channel, he usually has a breakdown of how the top recruits turn out. Some are great, most end up having an impact and a few of course are busts.

 



Wonder what would happen if there was a cap on the number of 5 and 4 star players each team could have.

Been that way for 50 years and we still love the team and entertainment.

baker mayfield was basically unranked and walked on. CFB is filled with those guys, but that said it's been shown that the star rankings do generally translate into better players more frequently. that said you still have to have the coach/system to make it happen.
 

This list helps explain why James Franklin gets called overrated. During this time he is 0-4 against OSU and 1-3 against Michigan.
OTO, it shows that Fleck was doing more with less. But then again, recruiting is part of a coach's job.
 

Those 3 star teams below us...
We had Nebraska's number lately but their fortunes are going to change starting this season.
We lose to Bert almost every time we play him.
NW embarrassingly beat us last year.
If Maryland doesn't beat us they scare us...I think we are 3 and 3 the last few years.
Rutgers has our OC and starting QB...we'll see.
Bottom line we got too many 3 stars and too few 4 stars.
Walk-ons play in the NFL along with 3 stars...it's just not a consistent thing.
Not all 4 and 5 stars develop but Alabama's record seems to suggest there is a better likelihood you'll win if your roster is stacked with them.

Agree. I think the star system fails more in basketball than it does in football. Primarily because you can have five 5 stars who can shoot the lights out, but you've only got one ball. Plus, someone needs to play defense. When it comes to football, players tend to have more specific rolls to play for the team and poor performance can be covered easier. Not sure this was a great explanation, hope you get my drift.

There are a bunch on the list that are overrated. Fleck has been better than he has recruited but needs to up his recruiting game to escape the overrated talk.
 

PJ Fleck needs to magically get at least six more four stars than he is accustomed to. He has done a remarkable job at developing players that end up in the NFL.

He has many challenges ahead with all the transformations in D1 college football.
