B1G Parents Protest Outside B1G HQ

Just call the football game a riot, maybe they can burn something down at halftime, and then they're immune to catching COVID. Problem solved, season saved.
This seems to be the most effective way to approach this situation. Either that or some way to possibly label the games as "practice sessions" because apparently the virus knows the difference between practice and the actual games.

Even if players get covid they will be fine. Those who are vulnerable should take extra precautions. Ridiculous that big ten isnt playing the fall season. Politics.

Politics in what sense? My institution was central in the decision to cancel fall football and we are losing our shirts financially. The politically expedient thing to do was to ignore the pandemic and play, as they are doing in the south. Way too many Covid infections to justify playing IMO.

Are you voting for Trump?

If you were a parent of a child playing college football.....Would you be more concerned about Covid or CTE? Hint...the answer is CTE
I suspect those playing sort of self select for people who are willing to take the cte risks, either because they don't know or don't care.

Well if they want to be paid by the school that does not even make money it seems like a great chance to skip school for those that do not care about academics but celebrate like crazy when they do a hat reveal and get that scholarship.
In all honesty, there should be something equivalent to NBA G-league for such kids. And the NFL should have to pay for it. They won't, of course, because they get a free minor league from the P5.

I think a lot of kids value the education aspect, and most know they won't even get a chance at spring rookie/try-out camp to catch someone's eye and be invited to fall camp.

SEC country plus Cali and Arizona.

Good that social distancing + masking up is cutting the effective R0 of the virus way down, in those areas. Most people in those states have temporarily been scared into actually giving a crap.

Would love to hope that there won't be another spike before the vaccines start arriving at the end of this calendar year and heard immunity is achieved by spring/mid-year next year. But that just ain't reality, with the flu coming.

100% covid. We have no idea what the long term implications may be, and ironically there could be long term brain damage in some people.

So no one in the B1G office would meet with the parents. Sad. Warren was apparently hiding under his desk.

Itโ€™s the same pattern weโ€™ve seen pretty much everywhere that experiences a significant outbreak. It goes in and takes out all of the โ€œdead wood,โ€ whether they wear masks or not, and moves on. It may, or may not come back later, but if there is another wave, it probably wonโ€™t be as severe. California has had a mask mandate and strict lockdowns for months, and they were unable to avoid the carnage.

There are future NFL careers on the line. Some of the players speaking out are locks to be early picks, but others like Durr and especially St-Juste need to get more on film. Play next year, you say? Sure, but at that point, weโ€™re talking about entering the draft at age 23-24.
I'm not saying your take is right or wrong because I honestly don't have a strong opinion on this either way, but I think Durr already came out on Twitter to say he'd rather not risk his eligibility playing a Fall season that's likely to get cut short and therefore lead to less film. Sounded like he'd rather wait.

I guess one answer would be to play the fall season but give players who feel like Durr the option to opt-out and preserve their eligibility. That's messy as you're dealing with limited rosters this year and bloated rosters next year (once recruits and holdovers are factored in), but I guess there's no perfect answer in a season like this. Seems extremely unlikely the B1G reverses course at this point anyway, so all the arguing is pretty pointless. Perhaps it makes some feel better to vent, however, which I totally get and have no issue with.

The NCAA came out the other day and said this season will not count against them, whether they play 12 games or zero. Of course, that was before Durrโ€™s tweets on the matter. He said he wants to play, but was worried about a positive test sidelining him in his last year of eligibility. I donโ€™t think heโ€™s actually afraid of the virus.

Right, that's what I was saying...he wanted to play, but was worried about risking a year of eligibility on a shortened season. Sounds like that's no longer a worry for anyone. Thanks for sharing that news...I had no idea. Is there a discussion thread on that cuz man, I just read an article and it's a HUGE can of worms. You're looking at the possibility of 6th year seniors playing a full season this year (COVID permitting) and coming back next year for a 7th year...but only at schools who can afford to fund those additional scholarships. Lower-end programs will have to decide whether to fund one more year for a senior or bring in a freshman who might not contribute right away. It'll be interesting for sure.

Yeah, itโ€™s crazy. Bryce Witham will be a 7th year Senior, if he chooses to come back. How many degrees will he have by the time heโ€™s done?

They shouldnโ€™t meet with the parents.
If the parents want to meet with someone it is their own kids.
If the kids want to meet with someone it is their coach or AD

No one is even working at the big ten office right now, they are all working remotely. Another reason this protest is hilarious to begin with.

Are you voting for Trump?
I would not but there is something evil about thinking that all those that did or will are somehow racist or stupid. That simply is not true. There are plenty of kind, caring, thoughtful, intelligent people that prefer Trump for two or three reasons that matter to them. There are many coaches and players and businessman that this board admires that will be voting Trump. I would not vote for Trump or Biden, but i do not hate on those that will.

If BSJ thinks that playing this fall will have a significant difference from playing this coming January, then I encourage him to seek a transfer. He has earned that right, in my opinion.

Granted, I think that would be an incredibly foolish move, given that it's unlikely the fall seasons of the Foolish 3 will come to fruition in any meaningful way.

Maybe there won't be a vaccine. But regardless, isn't the more prudent decision ... simply to wait a few months?? I don't see how it can't be.

How long are you willing to wait. We will be in same exact spot in two months. Then you will be able to say what?
Let me guess your voting for Biden because you hate Trump right? Your takes are sheepish. You just follow the narrative of the left with no independent thought of your own.

This virus is meaningless. And more meaningless by the day. The media and politicians continue to prop it up as a significant issue. It is not. Please. Common sense.

We also donโ€™t know what the long term conditions of many vaccines are. Yet we are willing to inject them into bodies with no questions asked. And now this new one, with basically no data your willing to go all in and start putting something you have no idea about into your body?

Sitting out of a vote, is the worst possible thing a person can do. Shame on you

Until the curve flattens
Until there is a vaccine

Global Warming and Racism!!!!!!

For what? So parents can scream at them? The decision has been made and Warren can't reverse it at this point....

Because sometimes when you make a tough decision that impacts other people you show them the common decency to look them in the eye and say "I hear you but we've made our decision".

It's called integrity.
