B1G Match 9: Gophers host Northwestern (10-23-24)

Winning matches against bad teams never hurts. Doesn't help a ton either. There are a bunch of matches left against good teams to at least solidify the seeding if not improve it some. I'm not sure what people expect. This is not a top ten team. Something from 11-16 would be a good accomplishment for this team.
 


Gopher was leading 20-9, set finishes 25-18. I shouldn't be surprised, this team is known for runs.
 



Hanson was great, but that may have been KT's best match as a Gopher. (And Gray's for that matter.)
 

Nice win but Northwestern is not good. I didn't like seeing Lydia Grote in street clothes. Let's hope whatever kept her out is a short term thing. Highlight of the night was the student who dressed up as blanket lady. After being crowned winner of the costume contest he even did a run. Too bad Peps wasn't there to see it. She would have loved it.
 

Good match and win for the Gophers. Hanson was outstanding. Gophers had less pressure, could work on things, and have fun. I like that Cook rest players like Grote, and previously Wucherer, to make sure that they are healthy for the future. I also like that he plays reserves much in the third set. It helps them improve, gives them an opportunity to show what they can do, and fosters team morale and chemistry.

I understand we need all the hitters we can get, but at time I think she is more of a liability with her lingering injuries. I'd rather have her sit and try to heal up as we are gonna need her down the stretch and into the postseason.
