B1G Match 13: Gophers visit Ohio State (11-3-23)

This doesn't feel like the Gimme it was two years ago.

I totally agree. IMO it certainly would have helped this season if the coaching staff either evaluated Z correctly or been able to transfer in a very experienced DS. This season we are currently at a .228 hitting % and our opponents are being held to a .191 hitting %.

Gophers Hitting% (listed first) vs Opponents Hitting% with Shaffmaster as setter. Three of those seasons we had CC/Kilkelly in the backcourt and this season Murr/???

2020 .265 vs. .191
2021 .233 vs. .173
2022 .259 vs. .182
2023 .228 vs. .191

Those that want a comparison. Under the four years with SS as our setter, the Gopher's AVERAGED a hitting % of .286, while holding our opponents to a .190 hitting %.

So where does the major improvement need to happen.....back court, setting, hitters (middles and pins)? Or could a player like Samedy been the real difference for Shaffmaster?

I don't know how many Freshman starters are on the Ohio State Volleyball team, but we don't have any.

This Gopher team continues to play very confusing volleyball for us fans. It is really hard to explain but it is like we are not watching a volleyball match. This is truly unacceptable and we just cannot have another season like this one.

Second set and Ohio State with a TO and up 19-9.

Another up and down match with another lopsided set and not in the Gopher's favor. However, they pulled out a win on the road, which is good.

Wucherer's serve/receive game will continue to be targeted throughout the rest of this season. Despite her SR issues, she was able to have one of her best offensive performances for the season. Actually...both Wookie and TayLa had plus performances.

Another huge success last night was our blocking. We held their best OH, Londot, to what I believe was a .079 hitting % with her 63 attempts. She has single handedly beaten us in the past, so that was really nice to see.

Then there was Z's really nice service run. She also came up with some very impressive digs during this match.

We lost a lot with the departure of Gros, Booth, Wenaas, CC, and Kilkelly. KCook and company knew that and brought in Grote, Awoleye, Murr and Z. Unfortunately, with these additions to our roster, their skills do not complement our returning Gopher players...resulting in the continuous ups and downs we have been seeing so far this season. Again, we shall see what this coaching staff decides to do after Post Season.
