SEATTLE – An undermanned Husky squad gave its all on the road and pushed 21st-ranked USC to four sets, but saw its four-match win streak end at the Galen Center in front of 3,418 fans. Washington fell 11-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-25 to drop to 17-5 on the season and 7-5 in Big Ten play.

The Huskies were missing two of their outside hitters, and the two hitters who primarily handle serve-receive, in Kierstyn Barton and Audra Wilmes. The Trojans took advantage of that and had 10 aces and put the Huskies into scramble mode on too many rallies today. Washington only found its offensive rhythm in the third set when it hit .278, but overall for the match the Dawgs hit just .061. USC hit .315 and improves to 16-6 and 8-4 in conference.

Kiune Fletcher led the Huskies with eight kills and hit .312. Madi Endsley also had eight kills and she had a season-high four aces, one off her career-high. Julia Hunt had six kills and four blocks. Senior Sophia Tulino made her first start of the season at outside hitter and had five kills and her first two aces of the year plus a team-leading eight digs.

The Trojans pulled away early and ran off with set one as the Huskies adjusted to the lack of Barton and Wilmes in serve-receive and struggled with hitting errors. Set two still saw USC in control but UW showed it was figuring things out.

Washington will not be a pushover. Going to need to play a solid match to win. Oregon on Saturday will be even tougher. With solid play they can win both and add 2 quality wins to the resume. Going to be a fun week at the Pav. Go Gophers!!

18-14 lead and lost the set, 18-11 lead and lost the set. Fucking pathetic 🤣

11 service errors and 13 receive errors, that's an entire set of points. Not good with the tourney quickly approaching. Not hosting and most likely a second round exit like last year.

I have a few connects to the program and some friends who've recently played high level P5 volleyball and they all echo that this is not a well coached team. That's concerning to hear.

Bad loss. Terrible serving and receiving. Streaky. Let opponents off the hook and have big runs. In the second set, Wucherer missed a couple of returns and then seemed to get out of sorts and made more errors. One of the cardinal sins is to think about the last point and not be focused on the next point. I looked for Cook to pull Wucherer and let her refocus, but it didn't happen. Hanson, Grote, and Wucherer had a lot of kills. The play of Engeman was the most encouraging part of the match. Washington played much better defense. One wonders if the Gophers were looking ahead too much to Oregon.

Maybe just maybe Landfair received WAY too much "credit" for how poorly they played last year. They are a solid top 25 team. They are NOT even close to a top 16 team.

Btw, they are now 0-3 against teams I'd consider their peers -- Purdue, Washington and USC. Their win over Wisconsin was against a better team, but the Badgers and Lions SHOULD be their peers too. This program should be better than it is.

That was pathetic. Errors, errors, errors. Washington did not win this match. The Gophers gift wrapped it and presented it to them on a silver platter.

13 aces for the Huskies many of the palm to forehead variety
