Nice win tonight. Julia Hanson was a nasty beast. Illinois had no answer for her. I'd also like to know what the hell got into Carly Gilk from the service line so I can bottle it and share it with the rest of them. It looked like she added 10 MPH. She had Illinois out of system repeatedly and we scored a lot of points on her serve. Whatever it is, keep it up Carly.

They looked awesome the first two sets. Nice to see them bounce back so well after the Purdue loss. They were rolling in the third set and lost their rhythm with substitutions and moving players around. Their digging and passing was great in the first two sets and got shaky in the third. It was a good win over a quality team.

MY REALITY CHECK - The Gophers got the win in three but it wasn't pretty at all that third set. This team was handling pressure really well early on but not lately and that is not a good sign. We are entering the toughest part of our season and as much as we enjoy all our Freshman it is more than likely going to become a concern moving forward. Unfortunatley, their inexperience in certain situations is coming to light more and more.

Hanson is a NATURAL at OH and her leeping ability allows her to "tool the block" a lot....especially when you have a 5'7" setter across from you. The Freshman are developing but Hanson is the bottom line reason this team is performing like it is this season. Right now there is no other OH in line to contribute to the Gopher offense like Hanson moving forward this and next season.....I just don't see it. This young team needs her leadership and athleticism, at all times.

I think you’re looking at this the wrong way. Yes the third set was unsettling ,but it’s another learning experience for this young team. You are correct that Hanson is the linchpin for the gophers and the OH will improve on their efficiency. It takes several seasons for OH to develop all the shots and techniques to reach the level that Hanson is at now.
