COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (8-11, 1-8 B1G) fell to No. 10 Purdue (16-4, 7-2 B1G) in a close three-set match (26-28, 19-25, 25-27) on Wednesday evening in West Lafayette.

After reaching 20 points in the first set, there were four ties and lead changes and Purdue squeaked out a 28-26 set win. The Boilermakers used a 6-0 run midway through the second set to propel them to a 25-19 set win. After trailing by as many as five points in the third set, the Buckeyes battled back to tie the set at 23 and take its first lead afterwards but ultimately Purdue closed the match with a 27-25 set win.

Emmi Sellman was the first Buckeye to 10 digs as she finished the match with a career-high 11 digs. Mia Tuman recorded a career-high six blocks. Emily Londot totaled 14 kills and 12 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Olivia Hasbrook finished the match with 10 digs.

Anyone thinking this will be an easy win for the Gophers based on OSU's record is wrong. They took Penn State to 5 sets recently. Emily Londot is an excellent player and they have a freshman hitter named Emi Sellman who is playing like a future All American. This will be a hard fought match.

what else is new? another match filled with errors and dumb mistakes.

Good win. The Gophers showed grit and kept fighting for every point. OSU was playing great but couldn't lift their game enough to hold off the Gophers. I hope the Gophers learn from this match and gain more confidence.

My concern is that OSU controlled the outcome of this match -- by playing well and then by absolutely stinking up the joint. I wish this team had the ability to dominate from start to finish against their peers, but I really don't think they do.

USC and Purdue (not to mention Baylor and TCU) losses still sting -- as does their competition level against Penn State. So far, Wisconsin remains their only good B1G win. This isn't a criticism, since I have no idea what they can do differently to change all of this. Just an observation.

Realistically, 14-6 seems to be a reasonable expectation for the team. That's no small accomplishment, just less than we might have hoped for.

I like the way Walleye summed it up. This team is good, not great. They have a couple very nice wins, a few frustrating but acceptable losses, and importantly no bad losses. The great teams all seem to have that one player who can dominate a match all by themselves. Think Sarah Franklin or Jess Mrzik. We don't have that player. All things considered I think this team is having a good season.

I'd consider the USC loss a bad one. Extenuating circumstances, but still. Baylor and TCU were also bad losses, but Wisconsin and Texas wins balance those out. Purdue at home was also not great.

As of this moment the "bad" losses you quote were to teams ranked 11, 17, 18, and 21. Those might be disappointing losses but they are not bad losses. Three of the 4 were 5 setters and 2 were true road games.

Teams they should have beaten but lose to = bad losses

But, like I said, they aren't really bad losses if we just admit the team isn't a top 16 team. They aren't.
