A JuJu less Southern Cal opened Big Ten play with a grindy 59-50 win over the Washington Huskies. The Trojan’s were led by 6’1” freshman forward Jazzy Davidson notching 22 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks in 38 minutes.

SC then traveled to Lincoln upending the Huskers on the strength of a 29-point third quarter. Davidson’s 17 points and 8 rebounds were more than matched by 6’1” sophomore Trojan guard Kennedy Smith’s 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

The “maybe we can do this without JuJu mood” was quickly altered by a trip to UCLA where the Bruins put a 46-80 beat down on So Cal. Head coach Lindsay Gottlieb was not pleased:

"Obviously, this is not where our team wants to be in a game like this," Gottlieb said. "I think our team feels it, you know, everything from disappointment to embarrassment. But we own it, and they were a better team today. They were better by a lot. ... We'll get back to work and take it on the chin."

So, the Women of Troy welcomed Oregon to LA opening a 37-21 half time lead. Then SC took it on the chin again when the Ducks outscored them 50-29 the rest of the way for a 71-66 victory. Gottlieb’s assessment:

“We came out like we’d arrived, like we had it in the bag,” Gottlieb said. “We were too casual.”

Starting guard Kara Dunn a 5’-11” senior averaging 12.8 and 5,5 rebounds was more direct:

“I think that it’s time we make a change,” guard Kara Dunn said. “We have to have a change of heart, a change of mind.”

Southern Cal lugs some heavy baggage and some bad JuJu into Williams Arena on Sunday afternoon. And to pile on, staunch defender Kennedy Smith who missed the Oregon game is listed as day to day.

I thought you posted this as the Gophers up 30 on NW.
 

Gophers are in a precarious position.

USC is unpredictable. That is uncertainty risk. They are without maybe the best player in basketball

And then the rest of the team is _________. What? Unknown.

Taking some time to gel a top 25 team?

A beat down possibility?

Yes to both.

A precarious position.

Gophers are way better than 2-3.

Lost to Maryland in 2 OT by 1. Led Michigan and can beat them but...

Now face a precarious game against we do not know.
 

Believe Kennedy Smith is out for USC. Lock down London Jones and don’t let her get hot from three.
Must win today! Got to get this top 25 win some way!
 

It might be a rock fight. Both teams are good defensively but struggle with offense efficiency. Really hope the Gophers can get the monkey off their back and score a victory over a top 25 team. It’s been a long time. You get the feeling that if they do, perhaps they loosen up a bit and can win a few more. Obviously would like to see a sweep of the former PAC school but going 2-2 during this stretch would be quite the accomplishment
 


Not sure if it’s just me but BIG+ is having some technical difficulties. Was watching couple games and nothing seems to be working now, hopefully it gets fixed before tip.
 


















I tuned in when it was 21-13 Minn. SC promptly caught fire from 3 and it got ugly. Davidson was definitely the best player on both ends of the floor in the 2nd. Nice to see Gophers get a little run at the end of the half to make it a game again. Can't believe that SC is going to stay that hot from 3 for the entire game.

Lotta game left.
 


I think Hart has the opportunity to have a big game. Got to get her the ball in good spots. Game is winnable, let’s get that top 25 win! Go Gophs!

Lots of game left hope they get it together. I think next years team will be better sorry to say. Get some new blood in here.
 

My issue is coach P doesn't seem to be able to make any in game adjustments. Like Tori a lot, but she is again struggling to hit her shot, got beat 3 straight times on D for 3's and yet don't try anything different. Christian came in, got a steal, but not once was looked upon in the offense and then got pulled after 2 minutes. If Christian would get beat giving up one 3 ball, she likely would instantly get subs out for again instantly. Battle/Glenn also struggling with the shot. Just seems to be we settle for one vs ones and then hope to get offensive boards on the misses. This is where the non-development in the cupcake games with different rotations is hurting.

Purdue just beat Washington (first Top 25 win since 2023) so as of the now the only Big Ten teams that haven't beaten a Top-25 team in the past year alone, besides the Gophers, are Northwestern and Rutgers (last won in 2022).
