Over all 11-10 .524 Conf. 3-7 .300 Streak L1 Home 10-3 Away 1-7

LAST TIME OUT
The Boilermakers dropped an 86-65 decision to No. 13 Michigan State on Thursday night. Purdue competed throughout the contest, finishing the game on a 30-13 run. Avery Gordon led the Boilermakers in scoring with a career-high 20 points.

NOTES
Avery Gordon made the most of her first career start, going for a career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting and matching her career best of six rebounds in 17 minutes of work.
• Gordon was the first Purdue freshman since Dominique McBryde in 2015-16 to tally 20 points with a field goal clip of 80% or better.
• Over her last four games, Gordon is averaging 13 points at a blistering 84.6% clip and 1.3 block per game over her last four outings. Prior to her first miss on Thursday, Gordon had made 12 straight field goals dating back to the USC game. Gordon is at 34.8 points per 40 minutes since Jan. 18.
• Gordon is the only player in the country over the last two weeks to score 50 or more points at an 80% shooting clip.
Madison Layden-Zay powered the late run for the Boilermakers, connecting on four of her career-high six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. The fifth year's Purdue career record now sits at 253 triples, while ranking 10th on the career charts with a 3-point percentage of 35.4%.
• After her fourth game of 40 minutes or more this year, she ranks fourth with 36.7 minutes played per Big Ten game.
Hila Karsh has found her outside touch in the last two games with six 3-pointers. The freshman posted back-to-back double figure games against Indiana (12) and Michigan State (10) to take her tally to nine on the year.
• In the first year of her career playing guard, Tara Daye is one of four Big Ten guards averaging better than 12 (12.1) points and 6.5 (6.8) rebounds per game this season.
• Leading Purdue in rebounding 10 times this season, Daye ranks fourth among Big Ten guards in rebounds per game and tied for second with five double-doubles.
Nya Smith is third on the team in scoring in Big Ten play with 9.0 points per game. After averaging 3.9 points in non-conference action, Smith has tallied 10.2 points over her last six outings with a trio of double-digit performances.
• Purdue's bench has given it a lift this season, averaging 24.2 points per game, good for sixth in the Big Ten, and tallying 20 points or more in 13 games this season.
• The Boilermakers have spread out the responsibility this season with eight different players leading a game in scoring, eight in rebounding, eight in assists, 11 in steals and 10 in blocks.
• Purdue is 18-1 since the start of last year when scoring 70 or more points and 9-1 this season.

It is the most times Minnesota has hit those percentages in a season since 2018.
  • The win over Penn State marked just the 10th game in program history in which Minnesota shot better than 50% from the field, 40% from 3-point range and 90% from the free throw line. The Gophers also achieved the mark twice earlier this season against Wyoming. It was the first time since 2018 Minnesota reached those benchmarks.
  • Despite recording its fewest field-goal attempts of the season, Minnesota shot a season-high 59.3% (32 of 54) from the field and 56.3% (9 of 16) from 3-point range against Wisconsin. Battle Tested

Looking forward to seeing if Braun is officially out of her slump after the Penn State game.

I am here. They look good from my seat!

At the half...

Minnesota field goal shooting strong at 55.9%.

3 pointer shooting 42.9%.

Legit AP 25 if they keep that up.

Braun 75% on 4 field goal attempts, 100% on one 3. She plays a touch cautious, to me.

Attendance a bit light.

This is where wonder if Net rankings will mean we will continue to play starters with huge lead. Big game Thursday @ Iowa to get rested for. Be interesting to see if any confidence will come about with beating the teams we should going back on road to face quality opponent.

Dominant win to get to 7-4. We have beaten all teams lower than us as we should.

Some all around good performances. Glenn’s shot looks like it hurts her entire body.

Now it’s time to see if we have really improved against the upper ranked teams.

It’s cool how they push the gas down and take off.
When they do that they can play with anybody.

I'm glad we've seen improvement from each player as the season has gone on, especially on offense. Hopefully they can make some noise in the last 7 games! I'm cautiously optimistic they could finish 12-6 in the Big Ten.

7 blocks by the Gophers - a new season high, beating the six they just had at Penn State. And, we'er 7-4 in Big Ten play for the first time since 2018 (our last NCAA appearance) per the radio post game show.

They also shot a season high 60.3% from the field today. That's the highest in any Gopher game since 2013! Neither Penn State nor Purdue are great teams, but the Gophers are cooking some good stuff when you look at the stats under the hood.

After the dominate win over Purdue, MInnesota is now #10 in the NET. That is crazy!

But # 28 in Wins Above Bubble (WAB). From the NCAA:

WAB was added this season to complement the NET metric. It does not factor in margin of wins or losses or a team’s efficiency — it only measures the quality of your resume based on the results. WAB is results-based and goes beyond strength of schedule to show how a team actually did against that schedule. Each game's result is assigned a value between 1 and -1, and that cumulative total determines a team’s ranking.

As explained in the NCAA's principles and procedures for this year's bracket, WAB shows how many more or fewer wins a team has compared to what a bubble team would average against that same schedule. The WAB uses the NET as the basis for opponent strength, with "bubble team" being defined as a team ranked 45th in the NET, based on a study of recent women's basketball seasons.

Great information. I am learning stuff I never knew. Still confused...

Is that irrelevant since Gophers NET is far above bubble 45th zone?

In the end, is ESPN Bracketology the cut through the noise guide we should follow?

Yeah, Charlie Creme is usually one of the more accurate people to do bracketology.

Last year, I think we were the team ranked highest in the NET to not make the tournament. But last year we also had no quad 1 wins, and so far we've got two this year.

Yes we need to keep cheering for USC and Oregon.

WAB is an estimate of how many more wins a team would have than a bubble team playing the same schedule. Bubble team is defined as a team ranked 45th in the NET. The Gophers WAB is currently 2.6, which ranks them 28th in WAB. UCLA, for example, has a WAB of 11.2, which ranks them 1st in WAB. Michigan, for example, has a WAB of 6.8, which ranks 6th in WAB.

It wouldn't be perfect, but a team's WAB rank (i.e. 28 for the Gophers) divided by 4 would be a pretty good estimate of their NCAA seed, plus or minus 1 seed. Under this view, the Gophers' seed would currently be 7, plus or minus 1 (28/4 = 7). I'm guessing the Gophers will still be seeded 8 in tomorrow's ESPN bracketology, but wouldn't be too surprised to see them move to 7.

Good game. Gophers did what they needed todo, beat the teams they should when favored. I know the recent stretch of games wasn’t against the elite teams but it is still tough to win in the BIG. Not only did they win they did it so soundly. Really hoping the Gophers found their offensive efficiency that will last until the end of the season. Battle has been incredible. I really thought last year that the Gophers would end up ending their losing streak against Iowa. There is a chance this Thursday but doing it on the road will be tough. But I do think this version of the Gophers can do it.

It will be interesting to see how much weight the Committee puts into this metric. I think the emphasis for seeding will still be on NET plus Quad results, whereas this might be used mostly to help select the last few bubble teams.

Not sure how it will be used, but WAB is in essence a way to quantify the Quad results, because WAB "only measures the quality of your resume based on the results", i.e. who you beat, which is what the Quad system does.
