Brenda Frese on Addi Mack:

“She’s shown it since the summer time,” Brenda Frese said. “She’s fearless. She loves to compete. Every time she’s in a big moment or a big game, she has risen to the occasion.”

Addi Mack on returning to Minneapolis:

One of Maryland’s most consistent scorers is a young star following the big footprints of her idol. The Minnesota native is having a stellar start to her freshman season and is thriving and jiving on and off the court.

“It’s been a pretty seamless transition,” Mack said. “Coming here as a freshman, you don't really know what to expect or how the team is gonna bring you in, but it has been awesome. Everyone has been super intentional about making me feel included and trusting me. Being a freshman point guard, it's a pretty big role to have. Knowing that I have so many people behind me that trust me, not only with the basketball on the court, but also outside of basketball, just in life in general, is an awesome feeling.”

This weekend, the Minnesota native returns home as the Terps start their Big Ten slate against her hometown Golden Gophers. She’ll host her new team for dinner on Saturday night ahead of Maryland’s contest against Minnesota.

“I’m so excited,” Mack said. “It's been on the calendar for a long time. It'll be super fun to play there, in front of my friends and family.”

Quotes were from Maryland WBB

It was a quick rise from being the third point guard option to a stat line against Kentucky which read: 40 minutes, 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 turnovers.

The 5’9” guard fairly dances on her toes in constant motion. Against Kentucky Mack rarely hesitated distributing the ball or taking an open lane to the bucket. Thus far, she’s been a perfect fit for Frese’s guard-oriented offense.

Oh…also, Mack is getting in sync with Indiana transfer Yarden Garzon, who scored 17 points (5-10 from three) versus Kentucky. Still, surly we can expect more defense than we got in last season’s 92-99 Maryland win in College Park.

Everything I read we never offered her a scholarship. Not sure why. Hope some one can tell me why. She is a starting point guard for a ranked team as a freshman!

Why didn't we offer her?
They did not offer her a lot of the issues with her were her height and physicality. She didn't respond well to it in high school. She was always a notable scorer, but she rarely was going to give effort on the other side of the ball. Also notably relied on getting 10+ free throws in games with flops/minimal contact, so wasn't going to get that in the Big Ten.

Also in 2025, the targets were Jordan Ode (Redshirting this year at Michigan State) and Crump (Texas) before she moved to Florida for her last season. Those are absolutely the right choices of who to target in what was a weaker 2025 class in Minnesota.

Lastly, there may have been more of an attitude, off-court things going on that turned coaches off about Addi. There were questions about whether she was a good teammate/good locker room addition.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the Big 10 responds to her play, now that she is playing, There's film available and teams are now forming a scouting report on her. Since she's started strong, she will become one of the focuses of the opponents game plan, which will mean adjustments. It will be interesting to see how Addi responds to the added attention.

Because she's a Minnesota girl, I wish her luck with her season, except when she plays the Gophers.

Niko gets a top 25 win on his first attempt down two starters. I think we can stop with the injury excuse on the women's side

If fans can storm when the football team beats a lousy Wisconsin team and the men's basketball team beats just the #22-ranked team I want a full court storm if the Women's team ever wins a Top 25 game again. :)

If I added correctly, the Gophers have lost 35 straight games to Top 25 ranked teams since they beat Arizona State on November 17, 2019.

Of continuous power conference teams, only Pitt has a longer current streak at 66 (a win in the 1st round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament I missed last time I tried counting).
Cincinatti is on a 59 game losing streak since their last Top 25 win in February 2011 but they've only been in a power conference for a few years.

Behind the Gophers are Wake Forest with 33 losses since Nov 29, 2020 and Rutgers with 26 losses since March 5, 2021.

Every team in the Big East as well has won a Top-25 game more recently than the Gophers, except for Xavier, whose last was in the 2010 NCAA Tournmanet, however I count their streak at only being at 33 right now, behind the Gophers.

I'll see what I can do. Of course, at my age and with my knees, by the time I reach the court, they'll have turned off the lights.
