I took a cursory glance at the upcoming B1G schedule. Wow. A war of attrition/battle for survival among the top B1G teams...

Ohio State plays Iowa, at Oregon, at Penn State, Michigan

Michigan plays Texas, USC, at Washington, Oregon, at Ohio State

Oregon plays Ohio State, at Michigan, at Wisconsin, Washington

Washington plays Michigan, at Iowa, USC, at Penn State, at Oregon

Penn State plays at USC, at Wisconsin, Ohio State, Washington (those 4 consecutively!)

USC plays LSU, at Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, at Washington, Notre Dame

-------

Wisconsin plays Alabama, at USC, Penn State, at Iowa, Oregon

Iowa has a favorable schedule, playing at Ohio State, Washington, Wisconsin

Could certainly be the case. Kind of reminds me of Big Ten Basketball in the 2010s when the whole conference had a bunch of good teams beating up each other.

OSU: Will be very surprising to me if they lose more than 1 game. that team is loaded.
Mich: think it's a big step down in talent for them this year. really lucky they get to start with 5 games at home to let whoever their QB will be settle in (assume they'll be starting Orgi and it'll feature much more QB run). Think they're more an 8-10 win team this year
Oregon: Ditto with OSU
Washinton: returns 2 starters from that team and have a new coach. there's a reason their O/U in Vegas is 7.5 though the schedule is overall not bad (outside of the 5 you listed, the next best team is Rutgers). Don't really see any way they're in contention at years end though they may start 5-0. I wish we played them this year.
PSU: probably a dark horse to make the CFP. The 3 games at USC, WI, and vs OSU will tell the tale if they will (win 2/3 and it's basically a lock with the rest of the schedule and them remaining healthy)
USC: probably going to regret having LSU and ND on the schedule this year, though maybe getting rid of Williams returns USC back to what they should be able to do best, which is run the football. think they pick up 3 losses early in the year and it's all over from there.
WI: will be 0% surprised if they miss a bowl game this year. Miami also tried the experiment of letting Tyler Van Dyke wing the ball for 3 years and went 19-18 with vastly more talented WRs and RBs than what Fickell will put out there. My guess is Fickells seat will be warm after this year.
Iowa: after reading their scrimmage result, will be interesting to see them this year. agree with you that the schedule is VERY favorable (only 1!!! ranked team though we all know it's hard to say with preseason rankings) so with even a sniff of offense they could back their way to the edge of the CFP to get obliterated in round 1.

I'm also interested to see Nebraska, who similarly got a relatively easy schedule (only OSU, USC and IA of the teams you listed). Could see a very similar trend to what happened with Colorado last year where they get hyped like they're back only to completely shit themselves down the stretch though it could all get derailed if they Nebraska it in week 2 against Colorado.

Same for Rutgers. Highest ranked preseason team on the schedule is USC (how the fuck do they miss OSU, Mich, Oregon, and PSU). Don't know what they have for talent, but this is about as good a schedule to try do something as you can ever get and they're trotting out AK at QB to try do it.

For some reason Rutgers got the B1G West Schedule Special this season. We'll see if Schiano can do anything with it, or just shit the bed like the rest of the B1G West did the last few years.

Which teams will survive the carnage? Where will the Gophers be in the bone pile? It will take a little getting used to the new Big Ten re-alignment.

On the Gophers' front, I can't wait for AK vs. MB at Rutgers on November 9!
