With all the negative stuff I just thought Austin Hollins deserves a thread for his good play. Had some clutch baskets while scoring 13 points (second highest in the game) to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Hopefully he can build off his performance and give us another scoring threat for the rest of the season.

Glad you posted this - if there was one thing that got me so excited, was thinking this kid is just going to get better and better. He really got us back into this game, I could not have been happier with his performance today. This kid's a natural.

Austin really stuck out tonight, great energy and brought us back in that game. This game aside, it's gonna be a blast to watch the Hollins backcourt duo next year.

Hoping he gets more miniutes. Best all around player of the frosh. Need his versatility on the floor. Time to have either Rodney or Colt come off the bench.

Colt is the only player that can get two fouls(deserved or not) before the first time out.

At this point I think Hollins is a better shooter, ball handler and defensive player than Rodney. I'm predicting he gets 30+ miniutes vs OSU.

At this point Hollins has to do some of what Devoe did for us late last year. Opposing teams are letting everybody but Hoff just stand wide open at the three point line while they sag in on our bigs. Until somebody steps up and starts hitting open threes, this will be a painful team to watch.

Hoff- Armelin- Hollins- Williams- Mbakwe

Shake it up Tubby

It might be time to go back to starting 2 bigs. I wouldn't mind seeing us go a little smaller. At least we'd have a big (Iverson) coming off the bench along with a guard/wing (Armelin).

As much as we all know Hoffarber isn't a PG, I still think Tubby's doing the right thing there. He's the best we have, and I'd rather have a senior like Blake handling pressure situations than Ahanmisi. With Hollins' performance last night, perhaps we try to get some early-game mojo going with Blake and Austin at the guards & Williams, Mbakwe and Sampson on the frontline?

With the starting line-up Tubby has used the last three games we have three players playing out of position-aka the Al ripple effect.

Hoff is not a pg(no other choice there)
Rodney is by no means a sg.
None of the 'bigs' are a sf.

Time to have the three bigs rotate in and out of the 4 and 5 spots. Colt coming off the bench.
Rodney and Chip splitting the 3 spot.
Hoff and Hollins taking the vast majority of guard miniutes with minimal 'spell miniutes' from Mav.
At this point of the year freshman aren't supposed to freshmen anymore. Time to roll the dice.

This is my vote too. Iverson seems much more effective off the bench. Armelin is a nice spark plug. Hollins is the only other legitimate perimeter threat. Hopefully those couple he made in the second half last night give him some confidence, because he missed a couple wide open looks the first half.

Austin

Start Austin.

I have seen enough of the BIG lineup.

He also played some GREAT defense. His size and quickness makes him tough on 2 guards.

Austin's play will open up more shots for Blake - his versatility is great.

Tubby loves defense.

If Austin plays d like he did against Indiana, he will get a lot of minutes.

I can see now why tubby has given him so much praise for his defense.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, two of our three bigs aren't playing with any aggression, and we don't have a big who can make shots in traffic. Ralph and Colt need space to operate, and Trevor has been missing bunnies lately too.

Tubby loves defense- true that. The problem is - other than the interior shot blocking this is not a real good defensive team. We don't turn people over and we consistently get our eyes gouged out with three point shooting. Considering that we aren't that great on defense Tubby needs to think about putting a little more offense on the floor. Rodney does not belong on the perimeter on offense. Austin does- it was great to see him get a little confidence last night on a team that appears full of guys who look like they have heard the words "don't shoot!!" every time they touch the ball on the perimeter.

Hollins definitely provided some glimpses of what could be in with his game. If Andre comes in and provides what we hope he will, that Hollins backcourt could be the ticket to big things for our favorite program. We'll see, hopefully Austin can build some consistency and confidence in his game, as we'll need it if we want to hold onto this NCAA berth this season.

We need Austin to step up ASAP. freshmen or not, he has some tools. I saw em play n practice all summer. now he needs the confidence to play up to his potential. Our team as a whole needs to develop a killer instinct and learn how to attack the basket better.
